The City’s Parks Department in 2002 acquired six acres of property known as the Doleshel Tree Farm. For several years, the Doleshel family operated a small Christmas tree farm during the holidays at the property located on 67th Avenue NE near Kellogg Marsh Elementary School. Over the past three years, volunteers with the Marysville Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and other community members have donated hundreds of hours clearing, cleaning and adding improvements to the site that will become a passive park when it opens later this year, says Jim Ballew, Parks and Recreation Director. The City’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is seeking help from community members for name ideas. The Park Board has submitted three names to get the contest going: Rita Matheny Park in recognition of the former Mayor (1991) Doleshel Tree Farm Park recognizing former use and ownership Don Arndt Park in recognition of slain police officer Don Arndt (1966) Deadline for entries is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15. The Park Board will make its final recommendation to the City Council. The winner will be credited in City media for the winning name, and invited to cut the ribbon with Mayor Jon Nehring when the park opens later this year.
