The ribbon-cutting will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 in Northpointe East Park, 70th Street and 79th Drive, with a walk along the 1.6-mile paved trail to follow. Refreshments will be available. Mayor Jon Nehring, a regular runner himself, calls the trail a great new recreational asset that adds to the livability of our City. “I am a strong advocate of making Marysville a more walk-able, bike-able and healthy community, with safe routes that create neighborhood connections,” Nehring says. “The Bayview Ridge Trail is a great addition to our growing system of parks and trails, and we hope you get a chance to come out and enjoy it.” While the trail hasn’t officially opened, it is already seeing its share of activity in the last days of summer with local residents jogging, walking dogs, pushing strollers and getting the family out for a bike ride. Trail hours are dawn to dusk. Trail installation for the $49,000 project started in June, with work done in-house. The City's Engineering, Streets, Parks and Community Development departments all had a hand in planning and construction, which used recycled products, says Parks and Recreation Director Jim Ballew. The Mayor and City Council green-lighted funding for construction earlier this year for the project that became a priority as part of Marysville Healthy Communities Project work to reduce obesity through promoting more walking in our community and a more active lifestyle, says Ballew. The trail was also a priority in the City’s Comprehensive Plan for non-motorized transportation. Marysville plans to develop a regional trail system that extends north to 84th Street NE (Getchell Hill Road) and south to Soper Hill Road. An anonymous donor also funded a plaque and bench to honor slain Seattle Police Officer and Marysville resident Timothy Brenton. The memorial will be dedicated at the trail grand opening, Ballew said. For more information contact the Parks Office at (360) 363-8400.
