Storm Update – 2/19/14 - 8:06 a.m. Public Works crews did a good job keeping up with the storm last night. They are still cleaning up and treating hills and intersections this morning, and the sidewalk plows are out on their runs today. The forecast is calling for another two inches or so later today and then rain on Friday. Friday’s storm could be a problem with street flooding if drains and catch basins are clogged with snow and ice. Once Public Works is done cleaning up from the storm, crews will concentrate on clearing drains and catch basins. If the weather cooperates, Public Works hopes to set up a night crew next week to begin doing snow removal throughout the entire downtown. The first priority will be Oxford St and River St, which are very narrow with little space for vehicles. After that, they will work throughout the entire downtown area. This will help PW later by getting a lot of the sand and debris off the streets and sidewalks before spring sweeping efforts begin.
