To: Distribution From: Rob Stalford, Superintendent – Solid Waste Subject: Upcoming Solid Waste Collection / Facility Schedule Date: September 9, 2013 October 14, 2013 – Columbus Day Holiday As a result of the Columbus Day holiday on Monday, October 14, 2013, the Solid Waste Facility will be closed. Trash & recyclables will be collected as usual on that day and need to be curbside by 7:00 AM. The Solid Waste Facility will re-open on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at 7:15 AM. Leaf Collection Program – As we did last year, waste leaves will be collected from residents along with their household trash! Please place waste leaves in heavy duty plastic bags, curbside, along with your regular household trash, on your regular trash collection day. The City’s Contractor for trash collection will be collecting the bagged leaves, along with your household trash, for disposal. There is no special schedule for this service. Waste leaves can be placed curbside at your convenience. If you so desire, leaves can also be dropped off at the Lewiston Solid Waste Facility during normal business hours. Veterans Day – Holiday – November 11, 2013 The Veteran’s Day holiday will be celebrated on Monday, November 11, 2013. Therefore, the Solid Waste Facility will be closed on this day. Trash & recyclables will be collected as usual on that day and need to be curbside by 7:00 AM. The Solid Waste Facility will re-open on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at 7:15 AM. November 28 & 29, 2013 – Thanksgiving Holiday Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, trash normally collected Thursday, November 28, 2013, will not be collected until Friday, November 29, 2013. Trash will be collected 1 day late for the remainder of the week, with Friday’s trash being collected on Saturday, November 30, 2013. All trash must be curbside by 7:00 AM. The Solid Waste Facility will be closed on Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29, 2013. The facility will re-open on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at 8:00 AM. December 24 & 25, 2013 – Christmas Holiday The Christmas Day holiday will be celebrated on a Wednesday this year and there will be no curbside trash collection service on this day. Therefore, trash will be collected 1 day late for the remainder of the week, with Friday’s trash being collected on Saturday, December 28, 2013. As always, all trash must be curbside by 7:00 AM. The Solid Waste Facility will be closed from 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 24, 2013 through Wednesday, December 25, 2013. The Solid Waste Facility will re-open on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at 7:15 AM. January 1, 2014 – New Years Day The New Year’s Day holiday will be celebrated on a Wednesday this year and there will be no curbside trash collection service on this day. Therefore, trash will be collected 1 ---PAGE BREAK--- day late for the remainder of the week, with Friday’s trash being collected on Saturday, January 4, 2014. As always, all trash must be curbside by 7:00 AM. The Solid Waste Facility will be closed all day on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, and will re- open on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 7:15 AM. Christmas Tree Collection / Disposal As was done last year, the City will not provide curbside collection of waste Christmas trees. Please do not place waste Christmas trees curbside, they WILL NOT be collected by waste collection staff. Waste Christmas trees should be brought to the following locations for disposal – • Public Works Yard 103 Adams Ave. Lewiston Open 24 hours / day • The City’s Solid Waste Facility 424 River Rd. Lewiston Open 7:15 A – 2:45 P, weekdays. 8:00 A – 12:00 noon, Saturday Solid Waste Facility - Saturday Hours – Fall & Winter During the Fall & Winter months, the Extended Hours at the Solid Waste Facility will be discontinued. The new hours, beginning Saturday, November 2, 2013, will return to 8:00 AM to 12 noon.
