Weather Update – Lewiston Public Works Afternoon of February 21, 2014 Public Works addressed most, if not all, of Lewiston’s drainage trouble-spots during 2/21/14, but a lot of wet areas still exist. Looking at the radar, there is a line of rain storms currently in New York approaching the Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut borders that will arrive here closer to 7:30 - 9:00 pm. The radar is showing that some of these storms have downpours with medium to heavy rain, and the forecast is calling for a total of about 1/3 inch of rain. If that amount of rain arrives quickly, Public Works is concerned that this will likely cause street flooding. Public Works has arranged to have two three-man crews on duty and ready to respond when the rain arrives. Each crew will have an equipment operator to run a front-end loader and two laborers for hand shoveling as needed. Public Works is also planning to have its dispatcher on duty fielding calls from residents and helping the crews by notifying them of concern locations.
