Lewiston Department of Public Works - 103 Adams Ave. - Lewiston, Maine 04240 City of Lewiston 2014 Summer Collection Schedule & Solid Waste Info HOLIDAYS: THE SOLID WASTE FACILITY IS CLOSED. July 4, 2014 – Independence Day The Independence Day holiday will be celebrated on a Friday this year. There will be no disruption/change in the residential trash collection program on this day. If your regular trash collection day is Friday, please make sure all residential trash & recyclable waste is placed curbside by 7:00 AM on Friday morning. The Solid Waste Facility will be closed all day on Friday, July 4, 2014. The Solid Waste Facility will re-open on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 8:00 AM. September 1, 2014 – Labor Day Due to the celebration of Labor Day on Monday, September 1st, the Solid Waste Facility will be closed that day. The Solid Waste Facility will be open on Saturday, August 30th, from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon and will be closed on Monday, September 1st. The Facility will re-open on Tuesday, September 2nd, at 7:15 AM. Curbside residential trash and recyclables will be collected as usual on Monday, September 1st. All residential waste and recyclables must be curbside by 7:00 a.m. on the day of collection. Curbside Recycling (note – new column) Single Stream Recycling continues to do well in Lewiston, but we can do even better and need your help! Waste Items Which Can Be Recycled: PAPER – IF IT TEARS IT’S RECYCLABLE CARDBOARD OF ANY KIND CANS – TIN, METAL, & ALUMINUM – EVEN AEROSOL (MUST BE EMPTY) PLASTIC CONTAINER – #s ONE THRU SEVEN For More Detail, the Following are Acceptable Materials: Newspapers, Magazines, Catalogs, Telephone/Soft/Hard Cover Books, Direct Mail/Envelopes (all types), Paper (all colors, staples/paperclips are ok), Paperboard ---PAGE BREAK--- Lewiston Department of Public Works - 103 Adams Ave. - Lewiston, Maine 04240 (cereal/shoeboxes) All Corrugated Cardboard/Brown Paper Bags, Milk/Juice Cartons, Plastic Bottles and Containers Numbered 1-7, Soda/Juice/Water Bottles (glass or plastic), Milk Jugs, Bleach/Detergent Containers, Shampoo Bottles, Food Containers (cottage cheese/margarine/yogurt), Glass Bottles/Jars (any color), Aluminum (pie plates, trays/foil), Metal Cans (tin/steel/aluminum), Empty Aerosol Containers. Acceptable Rigid Plastics: 1 and 5 Gallon Buckets WITH Handle Attached, Milk/Soda Crates, Laundry Baskets, Small Plastic Trash Bins (up to 5 gallon), Plastic Toys, Landscape Trays, Plastic Plant Pots, Kitty Litter Buckets, Children’s Size Rigid Pools. The Following Items ARE NOT Acceptable as Recyclables: No Plastic Bags, Plastic Grocery Bags, Stretch Wrap, Styrofoam, No Foam Packaging, Ceramics, Window Glass, Mirrors, Light Bulbs, Dishes. Hard, Brittle Plastic is Not Acceptable (i.e. monitor, keyboards, some children’s toys). A Single Stream recycling video can be seen on the City website at www.lewistonmaine.gov/recyclingvideo. Pamphlets are available at the Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon Street; City Hall, 27 Pine Street; Public Works, 103 Adams Avenue; the Solid Waste Facility (dump) located at 424 River Road, and through many community groups and non-profit organizations. SOLID WASTE FACILITY FEE SCHEDULE The following schedule of fees shall be charged for use of the City’s Solid Waste Facility (Facility) and services rendered by the City’s Department of Public Works (DPW). A Facility employee shall determine whether a vehicle entering the Facility contains a full or partial load, and the fees listed below will be adjusted accordingly: A. Vehicles with an “ePass” or an “abbreviated ePass” (as defined in Section 62-11 of the City of Lewiston Code of Ordinances) will not be charged for waste disposal of those materials identified in Section 62-24 – ePass program – of the City’s Code of Ordinance. ePasses are sold to owners of Residential properties and multi-unit properties as defined in the City’s Code of Ordinance, ONLY. Abbreviated ePasses are available for purchase by tenants who live in rental property. ePasses are intended for use by the recipient, ONLY, and ARE NOT transferable. Failure to present the ePass (Driver’s License) to the Scale House Attendant will result in charges for the disposal of the waste material. “Abbreviated ePass” $10.00 First “ePass” $20.00 Second “ePass” $40.00 Limit, one ePass, rental property tenant, per year. Limit, two ePasses, per residential property owner, per year. B. All vehicles, which do not have a valid ePass for the type of materials to be disposed and compaction vehicles shall be weighed and charged a unit price of: $95.00/Ton ---PAGE BREAK--- Lewiston Department of Public Works - 103 Adams Ave. - Lewiston, Maine 04240 The minimum disposal charge shall be: $ 7.00 C. All vehicles hauling commercial or construction debris shall be subject to a minimum charge of: $ 8.00/Ton D. All vehicles containing only recyclables and/or scrap metal, as defined in Chapter 62 of the City Code of Ordinances: NO FEE E. Scale Weights (includes Commercial & Waste Haulers, as defined): $10.00/vehicle weight F. All vehicles not having a valid ePass for the following waste materials will be charged at the identified rate: Wood waste $90.00/Ton Asphalt, bricks, concrete (without rebar) $ 6.00/Ton Asphalt shingles, and sheetrock (March – October) $79.00 /Ton Asphalt, shingles, and sheetrock (November – February) $90.00/Ton Bulky waste $79.00/Ton 20# Propane tanks $ 3.00/Tank Refrigerant containing appliances (Residential air-conditioners / refrigerators) $11.00/Item Lead acid batteries (Non-Universal Waste) NO FEE Waste oil NO FEE Florescent lights NO FEE G. All mixed loads containing recyclables mixed w/ solid waste as determined by the Solid Waste Supt. or his designee: $180.00/Ton H.
