OFFICE PAPER RECYCLING PROGRAM As the City of Lewiston and the State of Maine are facing a shortage of disposal capacity, and as recycling both reduces the waste stream and conserves natural resources, the City of Lewiston, as a governing body, hereby establishes a policy to reduce and recycle waste generated as a result of its municipal activities. I. OFFICE PAPER RECYCLING PROGRAM The Office Paper Recycling Program shall involve the recycling of the various grades of paper for which there is a market. All City employees shall participate in the program. 1. Computer paper; 2. White and colored ledger paper, which includes copy paper and envelopes without plastic windows; 3. Mixed paper, which includes all coated stock, newsprint, and other paper that is not included in categories 1 and 2. Carbon paper cannot be recycled and should be disposed of with regular rubbish. City employees shall separate their office paper at their desk and shall place the paper in marked containers in their offices. Custodial staff shall collect the paper from the offices at City Hall and place it in the basement for collection by the City's vendor. Public Works, the Multi-Purpose Center, the Police and Fire Departments and the Library shall store their paper in large containers. These containers shall be transported to City Hall and set with the City Hall containers. The program shall be phased in with separation of computer paper and ledger paper initially and mixed paper added once the program is running smoothly. The School Department shall also be included once the City Hall, Public Works, Police and Fire Departments and Multi-Purpose Center programs are running smoothly.
