LARAMIE CITY COUNCIL PUBLIC HEARING Original Ordinance 1877 July 23, 2013 Public Hearing was called to order by Mayor Paulekas at 6:10 p.m. City Council present: Vicki Henry, Jayne Pearce, Lee Kempert, Klaus Hanson, Joe Shumway, Paul Weaver, and Dave Paulekas. Absent: Roger McKinley and Joe Vitale. The City Clerk’s Assistant read the notice: THE LARAMIE CITY COUNCIL WILL MEET ON TUESDAY, JULY 23, 2013 AT 6:00 P.M. IN THE CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS, LARAMIE CITY HALL. 406 IVINSON STREET, TO TAKE PUBLIC COMMENTS OR PROTESTS ON A PROPOSED ORIGINAL ORDINANCE NO. 1877: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ZONING DISTRICT MAP OF THE CITY OF LARAMIE, WYOMING BY REZONING APPROXIMATELY 54.57 ACRES OF LAND GENERALLY LOCATED WEST OF BOULDER DRIVE AND NORTH OF BILL NYE AVENUE FROM B1 (LIMITED BUSINESS), LR (SINGLE- FAMILY RESIDENTIAL) AND O (OPEN) TO B1 (LIMITED BUSINESS). Charles Bloom, Senior Planner gave an overview of the ordinance, and a description of the location. Mayor Paulekas asked if there were any public comments. There were no public comments. Charles Bloom, Senior Planner gave an overview of the ordinance, the City’s historic plans for the property, the Comprehensive Plan for the area, and how a 48 unit development for affordable family housing on the property would be in compliance. Mayor Paulekas asked if there were any public comments. Eric Lewis, Grand View Heights resident, commented about the neighborhood property values that may be affected, security issues associated with low income housing, and that the increased population in the area would impact traffic, which will also be affected by the schools. He also questioned the need of all the apartments that are going up in Laramie. Ryan Gertis was concerned about the impact to the neighborhood, safety issues, traffic and poor driving, litter, beer parties, the low income housing property management, and how this will affect property values in the neighborhood.
