City of Laramie Vehicle TITLE, LICENSE PLATES and TAGS NOTES STEP 1: Obtaining a Title New vehicles purchased by the city need a Title in the City of Laramie name and address of P.O. Box C, 82073. This is obtained at the Albany County Courthouse (721-2541) for a fee of $9.00 each title. You will need three pages of documentation: 1. A bill of sale/invoice. 2. An odometer disclosure statement. 3. A former title or a document from the dealer of the vehicles new status. 4. $9.00 = petty cash to account # 100-dept#-4xx-31-25 Licensing & Permits (i.e. 100-2010-421-31-25) STEP 2: Obtaining a License Plate and Tag New vehicles will need to obtain a license plate and tag. This registration is done through the Dept. of Transportation and Licensing in Cheyenne, WY. (They respond quickly). Send a letter listing the Vehicle Identification Number, color of the vehicle and copy of the WY title. 1. A Wyoming Title 2. Color of vehicle 3. $5.00 = petty cash to account # 100-dept#-4xx-31-25 Licensing & Permits Replacement of a Plate takes 6 weeks to receive, so you are better to just apply for a new plate and report the old one to the police as lost or destroyed. Transfer of Plates/Tags When you transfer plates from one city vehicle to another you need to notify Cheyenne with a letter identifying both vehicles with the following information: 1. List old VIN # and New VIN # 2. List the tag number you want to transfer. 3. List the color of the new vehicle. 4. Enclose a copy of the Title of the new vehicle. 5. $2.00 = petty cash to account # 100-dept#-4xx-31-25 Licensing & Permits Renewal of Vehicle Tags: All vehicles with the City of Laramie will be sent automatically the renewal tags. They will need to be renewed in the year 2009. A fee is charged at this time. EXCEPT under-cover police vehicles are not automatic renewal. All these vehicles are renewed in March every year and we must notify Jody Brown from the Dept. of Transportation in Cheyenne via fax that it is time to renew. There is no fee for the renewal of tags.
