1 The Laramie Police Department in conjunction with Albany County Emergency Management Agency, is announcing a test of the reverse emergency call system named CodeRED on July 31st, 2013 at 10:00 AM. The CodeRED system provides Albany County and City of Laramie officials the ability to quickly deliver messages to targeted segments of the county or all of the Albany County area. We will be testing the entire system and numbers that are stored in the calling banks for Albany County to see if they are all functioning. There will be a recorded message that will be made to both hard-line phones and cell phones belonging to the system. It is also important that those receiving calls from the CodeRED test rename the number to ‘CodeRED’ or some name that would indicate it as an emergency notification. Some people see the 1-[PHONE REDACTED] and hit delete thinking it is a misdial only because they have not named it. If you name it in your contacts you can be sure you do not miss any important message. “This is also a perfect time for those who have not subscribed to CodeRED to do so. No one should automatically assume his or her phone number is included,” Cmdr. Mitchell Cushman said urging all individuals and businesses to log onto the Albany County or City of Laramie's homepages at www.co.albany.wy.us or www.cityoflaramie.org and click on the CodeRED link to enter the registration page. Those without Internet access may call Albany County Emergency Management Agency at [PHONE REDACTED], Monday through Friday, (9AM to12PM and 1PM to 4PM) to supply their information over the phone. Required information includes first and last name, street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes), city, state, zip code, and primary phone number, additional phone numbers can be entered as well. All businesses should register, as well as all individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, who have changed their phone number or address within the past year, and those who use a cellular phone or VoIP phone as their primary number. Rick Jansen, the EMA Coordinator for Albany County, used CodeRED extensively during the fires of 2012 and urges those residents in remote areas to sign up as well. “CodeRED allows for the delivery of targeted emergency notifications to specific geographic areas for a variety of hazards. Albany County residents must register with the system in order to receive timely notifications. Jansen advises residents to confirm that the system map has their residence or business address location properly identified. The map marker can be moved by dragging it with the mouse and the map scale can be increased or decreased to provide more or less map detail. Residents are encouraged to place the marker on the proper side of the street. CodeRED launches take time to initiate, so the CodeRED system will not be used to warn residents of weather events such as severe thunderstorms or tornados. Weather alert radios and National Weather Service warnings via regional television and radio stations will be used t o inform the public of such alerts. ” Press Release July 26, 2013 Contact Information LPD Commander Mitch Cushman 721-5376 or Emergency Management Coordinators Rick Jansen or Jessica Carrington 721-1814 ---PAGE BREAK--- 2 Due to volume of registration calls anticipated and the schedule for the EMA Coordinator, Jessica Carrington, Public Health Response Coordinator for Albany County Public Health, now has a dual role as Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator.
