Aspen, Quaking (Clump or Single) Populus tremuloides Size: 10 gal. Single: $83.00 Clump: $93.00 Native tree to the Rocky Mountains. Characteristic white bark and golden-yellow to occasionally orange-red leaves in fall. Pyramidal habit when young maturing to a rounded crown. Does best in well-drained soil. May sprout to form groves. Suffers from many diseases when planted at lower altitudes and in heaver soils. Full sun to part shade. Height: 20-30 ft. Spread: 15-20 ft. Aspen, Swedish Columnar Populus tremula ‘Erecta’ Size: 5 gal. $31.50 An upright form of European Aspen found in Sweden. Bark is a smooth light gray on older wood and dark gray to black on smaller stems. Leaves are dark green with flattened petioles allowing the leaves to ‘tremble’ in light breezes which is typical of Aspen trees. Fall color is orange to red and very striking. Full sun. Height: 30-40 ft. Spread: 10-15 ft. Birch, Western River Betula occidentalis Size: 15 gal. $69.50 Beautiful, small native tree with glossy, cherry-brown bark dotted with white lenti- cels. Boxelder, Sensation Maple Acer negundo ‘Sensation’ Size: 15 gal $84.50 Fast-growing shade tree for extremely harsh sites. Seedless male clone that does not attract boxelder bugs. Slower, more controlled growth with improved branching structure. One of the few trees that is tolerant of alkaline soils and has red-orange fall color which fades to yellow. White flowers borne in 3” to 6” long drooping racemes appear in late April to early May followed by small 1/4” dark purple fruit. Glossy medium green leaves are intermediate in size between Plains Cottonwood and Narrowleaf Cottonwood. Fast growing, Cottonless and hardy to over 7500’. Some years, leaf rust can be a problem, defoliating the tree prematurely. A naturally occurring cross between P. sargenti and P. angustifolia. Full sun. Height: 40-60 ft. Spread: 35-50 ft. Size: 15 gal $78.50 Crabapple (Pink), Radiant Malus ’Radiant’ Size: 15 gal $79.50 Classic crabapple with a rounded shape, deep pink flowers followed by 1/2” bright red fruit in midsummer that is not persistent. The bark color is an attractive reddish-orange and shows itself to advantage on the well- developed strong branches. While this tree rates poorly in national crab ratings, it continues to be one of the better trees for the Front Range community due to its fire blight resistance. Full sun. Bloom period: May. Crabapple, Adams Malus ‘Adams’ Size: 15 gal $79.50 A larger, densely rounded crabapple. New foliage has a reddish tint turn- ing to dark green during the summer. The leaves are dark green on top, gray green beneath, generally turning yellow to brown in the fall, but occasionally red. Withstands drought, wind, extreme cold and heavy soils. Plum, Princess Kay Size: 15 gal $81.50 Prunus Nigra ‘Princess Kay’ A small upright plum with dark brown bark, to almost black bark. Showy, fragrant double white flowers appear in May before the leaves, followed by 1 1/4” red fruit ripening in August. Lovely orange-red fall color.
