LAFAYETTE POLICE DEPARTMENT – INTERNET CRIME REPORTING If you are a victim of a crime that occurred on the internet, the Lafayette Police Department needs you to make a report with one of the following federal agencies, before a police report can be taken. If your crime has the following criteria involving consumer fraud or scams: • Counterfeit Check Scam (Craigslist, Money Order, Other Internet Scam) • Data Breach (Personal information that was disclosed due to the breach of a company’s data) • Telemarketing Scam or Complaint • Email Spam Complaint • Debt Collection Complaint • Credit Reporting Complaint Please file your report online with the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION at: If your crime has the following criteria: • ID Theft or Potential ID Theft (Including unauthorized use of credit cards through the internet) • Spam (Unsolicited commercial email) • Scam Emails (Pretending to come from legitimate sources) • Business Email Compromise • Elder Fraud (Victims 60 & over) • Money or Shopping Scams • Ransomware • Other Cyber Crime Please file your report online with the FEBERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION – Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) at: Once you have filed your report with one of these agencies, go to the City of Lafayette Police Department website at: www.lafayetteco.gov/police • Enter an Online Crime Report under Quick Links • Select Internet Crime under Type of Report • Include your Referral Number from either the Federal Trade Commission or the Federal Bureau of Investigation IC3.
