PROCLAMATION OBSERVING NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK AND HONORING LAFAYETTE VOLUNTEERS WHEREAS, National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 to inspire, recognize and encourage community volunteers; and WHEREAS, National Volunteer week is about taking action, discovering and demonstrating the collective power of individuals to bring about change in the community; and WHEREAS, National Volunteer Week is observed from April 15 through April 21 in 2012 recognizing over 63 million volunteers nationally; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Lafayette Colorado recognizes and honors: , The hundreds of Lafayette residents who volunteer on committees that serve and support the arts, resource conservation, youth issues, historic preservation, the public library, open space, senior services, community theater, alternative energy, community planning, and multi-cultural understanding; and Those who answer the call for help with special projects and programs such as pulling weeds on open space, reading with children, shoveling snow for seniors, hosting tours at the Miners’ Museum, and picking up along our roads and highways; and Those who step up when volunteers are needed for the City’s special events like the Peach Festival, The Oatmeal Festival, the Cesar Chavez March and the Fourth of July. MAY IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Lafayette, Colorado acknowledges the third week in April as National Volunteer Week and takes this opportunity to sincerely thank our local volunteers for their commitment and service.
