Lafayette Fire Department Sprinkler System Plan Review and Acceptance Requirements Plan Review & Submittal Requirements (Small Projects & Tenant Finishes) (Define Small Projects) 1. Existing system alterations, or the installation of a tenant finish system to an existing riser assembly, and consisting of 20 or fewer heads is considered a small project. 2. The typical time period for plan review of small projects is one to two weeks. Submittals should be made with this expectation. 3. Prefer NICET III qualification for fire sprinkler system or qualified Professional Engineer. 4. Inspection requests must be scheduled 48 hours in advance: (303) 665-5506, ext 3950. Plan Review & Submittal Requirements (Large Projects) 1. New systems shall comply with applicable design standards and shall conform to requirements as specified in this section. 2. The typical time period for plan review of large projects is a maximum of two weeks. Submittals should be made with this expectation. 3. All submittals are expected to be in 100% compliance with applicable design standards, as approved by the Lafayette Fire Prevention Bureau. 4. Special Requirements / Code Interpretation Adopted Standards / Codes (Including Specific Edition) . 2009 International Fire Code NFPA 13 – Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, 2010 edition . NFPA 72 – National Fire Alarm Code, 2010 edition . ---PAGE BREAK--- Special Fire Sprinkler Requirements 1. A pressure gauge shall be required on all NFPA 13 systems, located above and below the main valve and/or cross-connection control device. Special Standpipe Requirements 1. All designs must meet NFPA 14 criteria and requirements of the IFC. 2. In some instances, roof pressure requirements may be modified. Special Pre-action System Requirements None. Each project is review specific to that individual project. Special Underground Requirements 1. Installations shall be in accordance with NFPA 24 and applicable City of Lafayette design criteria. 2. Requirements 1. All thread connections shall be N.S.T. (National Standard Thread). 2. FDC access shall be clear and unobstructed for a width of 3 feet from street, parking lot, etc. 3. FDC locations in excess of forty (40) feet from approved fire apparatus access shall require approval of the Lafayette Fire Prevention Bureau. Please contact (303) 665-5506, ext 3950 to schedule a fire sprinkler inspection. 3. Access to all required areas must be assured by the contractor to insure proper inspection of required system components. 4. Special equipment or appliances necessary for any required inspection shall be provided by the contractor or business owner. 5. Re-inspection fees may be applied to projects requiring multiple re-inspections due to poor system installation or repeated failure of NFPA 13 required system testing. Interior Ordinary Hazard Fire Sprinkler System Inspection: 1. Existing system alterations or modifications involving fewer than 20 sprinkler heads shall not require hydrostatic testing, unless piping has been replaced and/or altered. Underground Pipe Inspections including Flushing: 1. All inspections and flushing criteria shall comply with NFPA 24 and City of Lafayette criteria. 2. Inspections are scheduled with assigned Engineering Inspectors with the Public Works Department. Annual and Semi-annual Fire Sprinkler Inspections: 1. Annual backflow prevention inspections are required by the Public Works Department. 2. All system inspection and maintenance requirements shall comply with applicable NFPA 13 and 25 standards.
