Board of Health February 21, 2017 The Klickitat County Board of Health meeting was held February 21, 2017 at the Klickitat County Commissioners Chambers. Jim Sizemore called the meeting to order at 2:00pm. The first order of business was an introduction of two new Board members, Sue Pennington and Erinn Quinn. Board members present were Jim Sizemore, Dave Sauter, Rex Johnston, Sue Pennington and Erinn Quinn. Health Department employees present were Kevin Barry, Lori Koch, Theresa Rundell and Kelly Sizemore. Dave Sauter moved to remove the fee adjustment item from the meeting agenda, add public comment and to adopt the agenda. Rex Johnston seconded the motion. Vote was unanimous. Motion Carried Rex Johnston moved to adopt the November 29, 2016 Board of Health meeting minutes. Dave Sauter seconded the motion. Vote was unanimous. Motion carried. The second order of business was a discussion on the Family Planning program. Kevin Barry recommended to continue the Family Planning program as it is through 2017. This would include keeping the Title X grant if the funding is still available. Theresa Rundell is waiting to hear from the state if we have missed the funding period for the grant. The Board expressed concern about the fiscal realities of this decision and would like to know what will be done differently to make the program work more efficiently. The Board opened the meeting for public comment. The public expressed concern about eliminating the Title X grant. There was a request for the commissioners to write a letter to the federal government in support of the Title X project. There was also a request for future newspaper articles regarding Health Department ---PAGE BREAK--- issues to be more informative and for Board of Health meeting minutes to be posted on the County website. Dave Sauter moved to continue the Family Planning program along with the Title X grant through 2017. Rex Johnston seconded the motion. Vote was unanimous. Motion carried. The Board discussed this decision to keep the Family Planning program as it is. A plan was made on how the Board will move forward with planning changes for the Family Planning program. A planning committee will be formed and meetings will be held as needed until a plan has been put in place. The planning committee will report to the Board of Health in one month. There was discussion that some Board of Health meetings should be held in White Salmon. The next Board of Health meeting is planned to be held in White Salmon in one month. The Board opened the meeting for public comment. There was a public recommendation that the local newspapers be invited to attend the planning committee meetings. John Quinn, a KVH board member, expressed concern about Klickitat County choosing a healthcare reform region. He informed the Board about State funding that will soon become available that the hospital would like to apply for. In order to be eligible for this funding the County needs to be a part of a specific region. The Board informed him that Klickitat County has chosen and is part of the Greater Columbia region. Dave Sauter motioned to adjourn the meeting at 3:18pm. Rex Johnston seconded the motion. Vote was unanimous. Motion carried.
