Permit Technician Building Inspection Department Page 1 of 2 KLICKITAT COUNTY, WASHINGTON POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Permit Technician EFFECTIVE DATE: July 7, 2015 REPORTS TO: Director PAY GRADE: 35 DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Building Inspection FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt LOCATION: Goldendale POSITION STATUS: Full-time BASIC JOB PURPOSE/FUNCTION: Performs a variety of secretarial and permit coordination duties to contribute to efficient office operation within the department. Responsibilities may include: composition of business correspondence, establishing and maintaining detailed records; preparation of summary reports; bookkeeping; receiving applications and issuing permits; providing technical assistance to applicants and performing related duties as required. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: 1. Assists in office operations, providing responsible secretarial support services to the Building & Compliance Director and Permit Specialist. Provides assistance to ensure a smooth and proper function in the processing of permit applications and issuance of permits 2. Types, edits and proofs correspondence, documents, reports, grants, contracts, tables and forms from handwritten or printed copy utilizing word processor, computer terminal, typewriter, calculator, photocopier and other standard office equipment. Determines layout, formats and other related details. Composes routine business correspondence and meeting minutes as assigned. 3. Maintains and updates files, lists, records and logs on computerized and manual record keeping systems; verifies and inputs data specific to area of assignment; searches files and records for readily identifiable information as directed. 4. Assists in the processing of regularly recurring reports. Assists in the maintenance of accumulative records, making periodic audits as necessary; also assists in the maintenance of follow-up system on reports requiring action on a periodic basis. 5. Tactfully and courteously greets and assists the public by phone or in person by providing information of a general and technical nature as authorized from sources such as published directories, applicable regulations, codes and procedures; responds to questions regarding department procedures, policies and processes and assists them when within scope of authority and refers others to appropriate individuals or departments, promoting good public relations. 6. Screens incoming calls, mail and visitors, prioritizing relative importance of each. 7. Accepts, checks, routes, bills and issues County building permits; works with inspectors scheduling, recording and documenting all inspections in the County. ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES: 1. Performs other related duties as assigned. ---PAGE BREAK--- Permit Technician Building Inspection Department Page 2 of 2 REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques and related tools/equipment to accomplish the basic function of this position, including any safety and/or legal requirements. This may, but not necessarily, include specialized skills. Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be High school diploma or GED, and two years of progressively responsible secretarial and bookkeeping experience, with up to two years college or business school education substitutable for experience on a year-for-year basis Licenses, Certificates, and Other Requirements Valid state driver's license in state of residence WORKING CONDITIONS: This position requires the ability to perform those activities to complete the essential functions of the job, either with or without reasonable accommodation.
