Custodial/Grounds Operation Specialist Public Works Department Page 1 of 2 5 KLICKITAT COUNTY, WASHINGTON POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Grounds Operation Specialist EFFECTIVE DATE: January 1, 2010 REPORTS TO: Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician PAY GRADE: Set by Agreement with Union (U~34 Code) DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Public Works FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt LOCATION: Goldendale & White Salmon POSITION STATUS: Full-time BASIC JOB PURPOSE/FUNCTION: Performs a wide variety of custodial duties and grounds care to keep county buildings and grounds clean, orderly, sanitary, safe and secure with all related systems and equipment operating properly. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: 1. Performs a variety of general custodial duties including floor care (sweep, mop, scrubs, strips and waxes various types of surfaces, vacuums and shampoos carpets), furniture and woodwork care (dusts, waxes, washes and polishes), sanitation duties (clean and disinfect restrooms, drinking fountains and other appurtenances), replenish hand towels, toilet tissue, soap and other restroom materials, empties trash, garbage and recycling containers. 2. Maintains lawns and landscaping at Courthouse, Jail, Annexes and other areas as assigned. Plants lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, and grass: maintaining lawns, landscaped areas, and ground by mowing, trimming, weeding, pruning, spraying, fertilizing, maintaining irrigation system, pest control and removal of debris. Removes snow and ice from walkways and generally keeps areas safe for public and employees. 3. Maintains lawn mowers, weed eaters and other miscellaneous grounds care equipment to assure proper working order. 4. Performs troubleshooting and minor repairs of electrical wiring, plumbing, mechanical, irrigation, heating and ventilation, and air conditioning systems, often utilizing blueprints and/or maintenance repair manuals. 5. Performs light carpentry work, such as constructing cabinets, shelves, bookcases and dividers, utilizing hand and power tools correctly and safely. Performs priming, painting and trimming work. 6. Performs general maintenance and minor repairs for all department vehicles. 7. May perform other small engine repair and maintenance. Provides assistance to the Facilities Maintenance Technician as needed on various projects such as equipment testing, etc. 8. May provide assistance to the Fairgrounds and Parks Departments as needed. 9. Inspects facilities for security, safety, and needed repairs; takes appropriate action. 10. Arranges furniture and equipment for special activities; cleans and secures areas after event. 11. Supervises juvenile and/or adult participation training assistants in the performance of custodial/ground care work. 12. Secures buildings and facilities by turning off lights and appliances and locking buildings. 13. Maintains records of activities. 14. Performs other related duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques and related tools/equipment to accomplish the basic function of this position, including any safety and/or legal requirements. This may, but not necessarily, include specialized skills. Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be High school diploma or GED and any combination of training and experience that would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job. Licenses, Certificates and Other Requirements Valid state driver's license in state of residence WORKING CONDITIONS: The working environment will include both indoor and outdoor work, which may include working in inclement weather. Occasionally lifting of 25-100 lbs may be required. This position will also be exposed to the following hazardous or corrosive chemicals: Fertilizers, soil additives, automotive chemicals, fuels and lubricating oils, paints, primers and solvents, cleaning and sanitation chemicals, airborne environmental dust and wood dust.
