Trout Lake Washington Gateway to Majestic Mt. Adams & the Gifford Pinchot National Forest Trout Lake is a village of friendly people just 25 miles north of the Columbia River Gorge, White Salmon and Hood River. Trout Lake is located at the base of Mt. Adams, which looms over impressive glaciers, forest wilderness, and subalpine meadows providing many recreational opportunities: hiking, camping, fishing, huckleberry picking, horseback riding, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and more. While in the area enjoy rafting on the White Salmon River, caving in lava tubes, bicycling in the forest and valley, hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, or climbing to the 12,276 foot summit of Mt. Adams. Principle businesses are forest, agriculture, dairy and tourist related. Organic dairies, herb farms and smaller agricultural enterprises thrive in this lovely valley. A community garden is a centerpiece of the community. Local artists create wood and metal sculptures, pressed flower art, pen and ink drawings, jewelry, hand-made quilts and water color paintings for sale at the Saturday Market July through August. The general store, gas station and several eateries serve local and tourist needs. Bed & breakfast establishments and a motel provide pleasant overnight accommodations. Each year the Association conducts events like the Mt. Adams Country Bicycle Tour to raise money that supports local charities and service organizations such as fire departments, school programs, the Grange, Jonah Ministries, Glenwood Homemakers, 4H, Friends of the White Salmon, and more.
