INTRODUCTION TO KLICKITAT COUNTY TRANSPORTATION STANDARDS The Klickitat County Transportation Standards as defined under Title 12 of the Klickitat County Code shall be used as a guideline for the development and construction of any new road and the reconstruction of any existing road, when such road is to be part of the Klickitat County Road system or is developed as part of the Klickitat County Subdivision and Short Platting Ordinance. The standards have sections which apply to both county maintained roads and private roads. In addition there is a section which only applies to private roads. A list of required information follows. A list of additional information which may be required depending on the location or complexity of a project also follows. The page number as to where this information is found in the standards follows each item listed. These lists shall not be considered all inclusive as unforeseen developments may require information not on this list. INFORMATION REQUIRED 1. Identify the functional classification of the roadway. (pg. 10) 2. Document the existing and future traffic volumes. (pg. 10) 3. Determine the design vehicle using the road. This determines road widths, turning radius, etc. The three classes used are; (pg. 12) a) Passenger cars b) Trucks c) Buses/RV’s 4. Design the road for a 20 year design volume. (pg. 13) 5. Submit a SEPA checklist for road work and storm drainage construction plans. (pg. 14) 6. Drainage is to be shown on road plans (50 year flood design) – create drainage easements where required. (pg. 17) 7. Road surfacing depths require a pavement design based on soil conditions and traffic data. (pg. 18) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION WHICH MAY BE REQUIRED 1. Traffic analysis – any application creating more than 40 ADT shall submit a transportation impact study. (pg. 14) 2. Road approach sight distance diagram. (pg. 15) 3. Access plan. (pg.20) 4. Bridge designs. (pg.23) 5. Retaining wall – structural design. (pg. 24) 6. Road approach and or work within R/W permits. The Klickitat County Public Works Department will assist the developer by supplying information when it exists such as traffic volumes, pavement design, etc. and help the developer in determining the standards which would apply to the project at hand such as functional classification, design vehicle, etc. The County will however not act as the developers engineer or provide other specific aspects of the road design.
