The fire is located on Washington State Department of Natural Resources and private timber company lands in southern Klickitat County. State Route 141 is open without restrictions. Motorists are strongly advised to reduce speeds and be vigilant for firefighters and equipment as they pass through the fire area (mileposts 14 to 17). Containment on the Dry Creek Fire was tested for a second consecutive day. Friday, hot, dry conditions kindled increased activity and on Saturday strong winds fanned latent hot spots. Containment lines held on both days without incident. Crews worked the newly visible hotspot throughout the day utilizing the system of hoses and pumps to good effect. That success further reinforced fire managers’ earlier assessment of the situation. Today marks the beginning of the transition in command from Team 6 to a smaller local team commanded by Kevin Griffee. Supervisors from both teams will work side-by-side today to facilitate a smooth transfer of command on Monday. Activities on the fire line will continue to focus on mop up and completing the remaining tasks to secure this fire within its existing perimeter. Incident Commander Shawn Sheldon, Team 6, is extremely appreciative of the support and cooperation extended by local officials and residents of the affected communities.
