Fire Update Dry Creek Fire Sunday, July 9, 2017 Noon Fire Information: [PHONE REDACTED] For Immediate Release White Salmon River closed from BZ Corner Boat Launch north White Salmon, Washington – With fire management efforts underway to contain the Dry Creek Fire, sheriff and emergency management officials with Klickitat County have closed recreational access to portions of the White Salmon River from BZ Corner Boat Launch north to Warner Road. The closure went into effect early Sunday and water access areas have been signed. Vehicle traffic along State Highway 141 from BZ Corner to Sunnyside Road is closed to all traffic. A detour is in place using BZ Glenwood Highway and Trout Lake Glenwood Highway. Today’s fire operations A Type 2 incident management team – NW 6 - will be arriving at base camp today to assume command of the fire. Interagency DNR Southeast Region Type 3 Team 2 assumed command 10 a.m. this morning and will transition to the NW 6 Team due to the fire’s complexity at 8 p.m. Initial attack efforts yesterday kept the fire at 20 to 25 acres until hot afternoon winds pushed its growth. The fire is currently estimated at 350 acres. The Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Emergency Management have only issued one Level Two evacuation notice to a single residence. A structural firefighting engine with crew is positioned there in case the fire burns in that direction. No other evacuations notices are currently in effect. The fire is burning in steep terrain with heavy timber fuels. The fire is burning on land managed by the Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and on private land protected by DNR. Fire operations today are very active and a night shift of firefighters will also be on duty. Resources ready for duty The cause of the fire is under investigation by DNR and the Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office. It was initially reported at about 10:30 pm, Friday, July 7. The following resources are on hand or enroute and working the fire today: Four hot-shot crews, four Type 2 hand crews, eight helicopters (including two Type 1s). # # #
