Before you apply, ensure you have acquired your parcel number from the Assessor’s office. You can contact them at (509) 773‐3715. The following informaƟon must be provided in this applicaƟon: Tax parcel number Site address and direcƟons to the site Primary contact informaƟon A detailed site plan (sample provided) The first step is to hire an excavator to dig the perc holes. If you have the equipment, you may dig the holes yourself. Dig two holes for the primary drainfield area and two holes for the reserve area. Once the holes are dug, contact the Health Department for a soil evaluaƟon. You can also ask to have the sanitarian present during the excavaƟon of the holes. We ask that you clearly mark or flag the following areas at the site: Proposed house locaƟon or addiƟonal structures Proposed well locaƟon (if applicable) Property lines Driveway locaƟon The sanitarian will evaluate the soils and the site for the appropriate locaƟon and type of sepƟc system. The next step is to design your system. AŌer you have received your site evaluaƟon results from the Health Department you can begin your design. Please Note: The homeowner may only design the system if it is approved for a standard or convenƟonal gravity system. If the site was NOT approved for a gravity flow system, a licensed designer or licensed engineer will have to design your sepƟc system. All system types and designs must be submiƩed to the Health Department for review. AŌer the design has been reviewed and approved, a permit will be issued. The permit is valid for one year from the issue date. InstallaƟon of the sepƟc permit is NOT ALLOWED unƟl the permit is issued. When the system installaƟon is complete, contact the Health Department for a “Final InspecƟon” and an “ok to cover.” An “as‐built” record must be submiƩed to be added to a permanent file and necessary before building occupaƟon. Klickitat County On‐Site SepƟc fees include the following: $275 for the site evaluaƟon $350 for the plan review and permit $110 for permit renewal $100 for verificaƟon of an exisƟng system $100 for a drainfield replacement $50 for a tank replacement $105 for a site evaluaƟon on a waterless toilet $30 for a waterless toilet permit and permit renewal ---PAGE BREAK--- Test Pit ConstrucƟon Guidelines A soil and site evaluaƟon is the first step to determine wheth‐ er a lot or parcel is “buildable.” Other names for a the soil test and site evaluaƟon include; perc test, soil cerƟficaƟon, or test‐ holes. The soils are not the only thing evaluated during the site evaluaƟon but are the most important for sewage treat‐ ment. Other things noted in the site evaluaƟon may include; wells, surface water, property lines, easements, covenants, slope, cut banks, driveways, underground uƟliƟes, or anything that may affect the installaƟon or operaƟon of an on‐site sep‐ Ɵc system. Remember to call 811 before you dig to locate any possible underground uƟliƟes. All test pits must be evaluated by a competent person per WAC 296‐155‐657. Test pits deemed unstable will not be entered by the sanitarian. Regardless of soil type, any test pit that shows significant cracks or fissures is unsuitable. Every test pit MUST INCLUDE A RAMP to allow safe entry into the test pit. For large on‐site sewage systems (LOSS) and exca‐ vator must be on site. Test pits shall not be leŌ open for an extended amount of Ɵme unless properly barricaded per L&I regulaƟon. And example of a properly barricaded test put would include orange construc‐ Ɵon fencing surrounding the enƟre test pit and secured by metal fence posts. The informaƟon gathered during the evaluaƟon of the test pits is called a Soil Log. The informaƟon provided by the site evaluaƟon report is used to determine the locaƟon, type, and size of the sepƟc system. Different types of soils absorb water at different rates and soil type will determine the size of the drainfield needed to properly treat and dispose of harmful pathogens before it reaches the groundwater table. Depth of the soil type will de‐ termine what type of system will be allowed (i.e. standard gravity, shallow‐cap, pressurized, sand filter, etc.). 3’ ---PAGE BREAK--- Goldendale Office White Salmon Office 228 W.
