Electrical Are electrical extension cords being used properly and not in lieu of permanent wiring? Status: Notes: Extension cords and flexible cords shall not be a substitute for permanent wiring. Extension cords and flexible cords shall not be affixed to structures, extended through walls, ceilings or floors, or under doors or floor coverings, nor shall such cords be subject to environmental damage or physical impact. Extension cords shall be used only with portable appliances. IFC 605.5 Is there adequate and unobstructed clearance to the electrical panels and do all electrical junction boxes and outlets have approved cover plates? Status: Notes: A working space of not less than 30 inches in width, 36 inches in depth and 78 inches in height shall be provided in front of electrical service equipment. Where the electrical service equipment is wider than 30 inches, the working space shall not be less than the width of the equipment. IFC 605.3 Open junction boxes and open-wiring splices shall be prohibited. Approved covers shall be provided for all switch and electrical outlet boxes. Combustible Storage Is there an 18 inch clearance of combustible storage below sprinkler heads, and 24 inches below ceilings? Status: Notes: Storage shall be maintained two feet or more below the ceiling in non-sprinklered areas of buildings or a minimum of 18 inches below sprinkler head deflectors in sprinklered areas of buildings. IFC 315.3.1 Are combustibles being kept away from heating appliances, ignition sources, hot-water heaters, etc.? Status: Notes: Combustible waste material creating a fire hazard shall not be allowed to accumulate in buildings or structures or upon premises. IFC 304.1 Are combustible materials being stored in boiler, mechanical or electrical rooms? Status: Notes: Combustible materials shall not be stored in boiler rooms, mechanical rooms or electric equipment rooms. IFC 315.3.3 Are garbage dumpsters kept a minimum of five feet from combustible walls, openings, and roof eave lines? Status: Notes: Dumpsters and containers with an individual capicity of 1.5 cubic yards or more shall not be stored in buildings or placed within five feet of combustible walls, openings, or combustible roof eave lines. IFC 304.3.3 Are combustible debris removed from the building on a regular basis, and not allowed to accumulate? Status: Notes: Combustible waste material creating a fire hazard shall not be allowed to accumulate in buildings or upon premises. Is indoor storage of flammable and combustible liquids in accordance with IFC 5704.3? Status: Notes: Posts, fences, vehicles, growth, trash, storage and other materials or objects shall not be placed or kept near fire hydrants, fire department inlet connections or fire protection system control valves in a manner that would prevent such equipment from being immediately discernible. Rooms containing controls for HVAC systems, sprinkler risers and control valves, or other fire detection or supression equipment shall marked. Approved signs for such use shall be constructed of durable materials, permanently installed and readily visible.
