A public agency, school or other citizen group that has exhibited significant attention to the use of trees to enhance public lands. In recognition of how trees in our community enhance our quality of life the City of Kalispell, the Urban Forestry Committee ask for your help nominating individuals, business and public entities who demonstrate exemplary attention to the natural environment by utilizing trees and complimentary plantings for the enjoyment of all our citizens. Submit Form ---PAGE BREAK--- KALISPELL TREE AND LANDSCAPING AWARDS Three categories are open for nomination and award consideration each summer for public recognition by the Kalispell City Council in public session of the governing body. These categories that may be considered for award include business/commercial, residential, and public lands or facilities. I. Business/Commercial Stewarship. Private entities conducting business within the City would be recognized for their appropriate use of trees and other plantings on and adjacent to the business that enhance the overall appearance of the facility. Factors that may be considered in determining the best candidate for this award include but may not be limited to appropriate selection of tree species for the site, variety of trees and complimentary plantings, and how the use of this selection contributes to the overall community objectives as a Tree City. The awardee would exhibit exemplary attention to the health and care of the site-scape and meet or exceed city standards. II. Residential Stewardship. Private homeowners or citizens within the City of Kalispell may be recognized with a tree award for the care they provide in the management of trees in a residential part of the community. Factors to consider in making this award may include appropriate selection of tree and plant species for the site, unique species of plantings and how these plantings compliment the environment, neighborhood and city. Care, age and health of the potential candidates’ site improvements or care of trees other than on their site, would also be major factors in determining the best candidate for this award. III. Public Lands Stewardship. This award may be given to recognize a public agency, school or citizen group that has exhibited significant attention to the use of trees to enhance a site in accordance with Kalispell City Standards in an unusual or unique way. Unique use of tree plantings may include but not limited to water re-use, storm water or waste water treatment, food production for off or on-site use, aesthetics or secondary benefits. Secondary benefits might include timber or pulp production, storm water re-use, run-off and erosion control or flood control through active management of the urban forest.
