JEFFERSON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS REGULAR MEETING MAY 13, 2008 7:00 P.M. This was the regular scheduled meeting for the month of May. Those present were as follows: William Rabun, Chairman, Gonice Davis, Vice Chairman, Sidney Norton, Member, Tommy New, Member, Johnny Davis, Member, Paul C. Bryan, County Administrator, and Bonnie Wells. Commissioner Rabun called meeting to order; Commissioner Gonice Davis gave invocation. Commissioner Gonice Davis made motion to adopt the agenda; Commissioner Johnny Davis seconded with unanimous approval. Commissioner New made motion to adopt minutes. Commissioner Johnny Davis seconded with unanimous approval. Commissioner Rabun welcomed guest. Reports were given by the following: William Rabun-Finance, Tommy New-Landfill, Finance, Johnny Davis-Public Safety & Courts, Gonice Davis-Public Works & JCCI, Sidney Norton-Health & Welfare, Carl Wagster-Ambulance Report, and Paul Bryan- County Administrator Report. Commissioner Johnny Davis commended administrator on the status of Matthew’s dump site. Commissioner Gonice Davis thanked the road department for the work done on roads after the storm. The administrator’s report touched on the recent storm (May 11, 2008) in Jefferson County (Louisville). The recent storm affected 14 mobile homes; destroying six and leaving eight with minimal damage. Four of the homes had not insurance. The administrator also stated an ad would be placed in the paper requiring contractors to have a license. Commissioner Johnny Davis made a motion to amend the agenda by adding the following item to new business: Solicit Bids for Disaster Debris Clean-up. Commissioner Gonice Davis seconded with unanimous approval. The following items were on the consent agenda: Purchase Pick-up Truck Road Department and Budget Amendments. Commissioner New made motion to adopt the consent agenda; Commissioner Norton seconded with unanimous approval. Commissioner New made a motion to Solicit Bids for Disaster Debris Clean-up. Commissioner Johnny Davis seconded with unanimous approval. Commissioner Johnny Davis made a motion to make the following library board appointments were Robert Holbert, Verna Hudson, with Pat Wren’s appointment pending; Commissioner New seconded with unanimous approval. Commissioner Johnny Davis made a motion to appoint Carl Wagster and Hayward Wells to the East Central Georgia Region Six EMS Board. Commissioner New seconded with unanimous approval. Commissioner New made a motion to accept a bid from Tucker Trucking for the disaster debris cleanup at a rate between $59.00 and $69.00 per load. Commissioner Johnny Davis seconded with unanimous approval. ---PAGE BREAK--- Commissioner Johnny Davis made a motion for Matthews Fired department to be retrained on the new fire truck; allow the truck to remain in Matthews, if there are more problems, send the truck to the City of Louisville for one month. Commissioner Norton seconded with unanimous approval. Commissioner Johnny Davis made a motion to solicit bids for fire trucks. Commissioner Norton seconded with unanimous approval. Commissioner Norton made a motion to move the artillery piece from the old National Guard Armory to Wrens’ Veterans Park. Commissioner New seconded with unanimous approval. Commissioner Johnny Davis mad a motion to amend the agenda allowing Mr. Charles McDonald to speak during the scheduled public comments. Commissioner Gonice Davis seconded with unanimous approval.
