From the McLean County Clerk’s Office Information on getting a Marriage or Civil Union License Kathy Michael McLean County Clerk Government Center 115 E Washington Street, Room 102 PO Box 2400 Bloomington, IL 61702-2400 Phone: (309) 888-5190 Fax: (309) 888-5932 ---PAGE BREAK--- What you need to know about applying for your Marriage / Civil Union License: • The marriage or civil union must occur in McLean County. • The license is valid the day after it is obtained, and for the next 60 days. • Make an appointment online with the County Clerk’s office to complete the application process. Go to • Complete the application questions online by going to web.tylerhost.net/web/ before the date of your appointment to save time. See the facing page and be prepared to answer these questions. • The appointment for an application is not the same as the marriage / civil union ceremony. We can only issue your license so that you may get married or have the civil union performed here in McLean County. • We advise you to set your marriage / civil union date before making an appointment with the Clerk’s office. The ceremony needs to take place within 60 days after the license is issued. • Both parties must be present to obtain the license. The appointment will take approximately 15-20 minutes. • The cost is $65.00. Payable as Cash, Card, or Check made out to McLean County Clerk. There is a small fee for the use of a card. If license is lost or damaged, there is a $10.00 replacement fee. • Both parties to the marriage / civil union must: Be 18 years of age. If you are a minor (a person 16 years of age or over but under the age of 18 years) applying for a marriage license, you must have written consent from both your parents or legal guardians, and they must be present and show valid ID at the appointment. Have a valid non-expired driver’s license, state-issued ID, or passport, which is required for identification. Not be related to each other. Know your parents’ current addresses, the states where they were born, full names, and mothers’ maiden last names. Know your social security number (if applicable). • If either party has been married or in a civil union before, we will need to know whether the most recent marriage / union ended in dissolution or death, along with the county and state where that event occurred. • If either party needs an interpreter, bring one with you to your appointment. Note: • No blood tests are required in Illinois. • Anyone can request a copy (front only, for first 50 years) of your marriage / civil union license. (After 50 years both front and back are available) • Only the marriage / civil union couple may request a copy of the marriage / civil union application. • Certified copies are not included in the price of the license. Judges only perform marriages and civil unions on Fridays. There is an extra charge for this service. We would recommend calling one month before the desired ceremony date to schedule.
