Photo: ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ The Medical Reserve Corps program was founded after president Bush’s 2002 State of the Union Address, in which he asked all Americans to volunteer in support of their country. Shortly after, in 2005 the Hamilton County Medical Reserve Corps was established by the Hamilton County Health Department to assist with public health emergency preparedness and response. The Unit is a community- based volunteer program that functions as a way to organize and utilize volunteers who want to donate time and expertise to prepare for and respond to public health emergencies. The Unit supplements existing local emergency and public health resources' in response to declared public health emergencies. The Unit is only operational through the participation of dedicated Volunteers. Anyone! MRC volunteers include: Practicing or retired medical and public health professionals such as: Physicians, Physicians Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Pharmacists, Dentists, Veterinarians, Mental Health Professionals, EMS Professionals, and more. Community members without any med- ical training or skills can assist with administrative and other support posi- tions. As a Volunteer you will re- ceive training/experience in responding to public health emergencies. Receive recognition in the community for your service. the Hamilton County Health Departments public health emergency preparedness through volunteering to meet surge personnel needs. the Hamilton County Health Department by staffing emergency points of dispensing (PODs) during public health emergencies. with the Hamilton County Health Department and local emergen- cy response partners in order to prepare to respond to public health emergen- cies. in public health emergency exercises such as: mass prophylaxis and vaccination exercises. Hamilton County Health Department employees and Hamilton County Medical Reserve Corps Volunteers setting up the Health Departments Mobile Point of Dis- pensing (MPOD) and Incident Command Post (ICP) as part of a timed exercise and training event.
