Read, sign and date Statement of Ownership. REQUIREMENTS: You must be Age 65 or older on January 1st of the year for which application is made. Greene County Over 65 Exemption may be claimed only on your homestead property. To qualify you must own, occupy and claim the property as your legal residence on January 1st for the year for which you apply. An application for basic Homestead Exemption must be submitted if not currently on file. By law, your personal vehicles must be registered where you claim Homestead Exemption when you apply for exemptions. If you are moving from another county or state, you must register your vehicles or transfer your registration before filing for exemptions. You may claim exemptions on only on property you own. A husband and wife constitute one “applicant” and may claim exemptions only on one property. You must notify the Tax Assessors’ office in the event you no longer qualify. PLEASE FURNISH PROOF OF AGE. APPLICATION MUST BE RECEIVED OR POSTMARKED BY APRIL 1ST. If exemption is denied you may appeal the decision in the same manner as other property tax appeals are made pursuant to O. C. G. A. 48-5-311. I do solemnly swear that I am the bona fide owner of the above described property and all statements made in support of this application are true and correct. Fraudulent claim of homestead exemption under Code Sections 48-5-44 through 48-5-50; penalty; Any person who makes any false or fraudulent claim for exemption under Code Sections 48-5-44 to 48-5-50 or makes any false statement or false representation of a material fact in support of a claim for exemption under these Code Sections, or knowingly assists another in the preparation of any false or fraudulent claim, or enters into any collusion with another by the execution of a fictitious deed, deed of trust, mortgage, or otherwise shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
