Special Election Sample Ballot November 7, 2023 For County Commissioner District 3 (Vote for One) Randy Abernathy Republican Michael K. Hall Republican Trent Olney Republican James “Tommy” Palmer Republican Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (Vote for One) Shall a special one percent sales and use tax be imposed in the special district of Gordon County for a period of time not to exceed six years and for the raising of an estimated amount of $77,000,000 for the purpose of: 1) funding the capital projects and equipment to include but not necessarily limited to improvements to the Belwood, Lovers Lane, and Harmony Church corridor, resurfacing approximately 168 miles, major culvert projects, and various widening projects; the purchase of dump trucks, asphalt equipment, and heavy construction equipment; vehicles for the Sheriff’s Office, EMA, and E-911, fire engines, a ladder truck, Fire & Rescue equipment, and fire hydrants; a new E-911 and EMA center, and a new fire station; replacement playgrounds at various parks, outdoor pickleball courts, and LED lighting upgrades; the purchase of passenger van/bus for the Extension Service/4H and other capital equipment for various county departments; the renovation of Ranger Community Center and Park and renovation of existing fire stations to prepare for full-time staff; joint municipal projects that include sewer projects in the Town of Resaca and the City of Fairmount and funding for storm water management in the City of Plainville; 2) funding capital outlay projects for the Municipality of Calhoun consisting of: public safety projects including new vehicle fleet for police, construct new fire station fire trucks, firefighter turnout gear and equipment; recreation projects including renovations to the Billy Bearden Recreation Center, Calhoun Park Phase III (new ball fields/concession building), playground upgrades, pavilion/restroom upgrades, maintenance equipment; public works projects including Curtis Parkway ---PAGE BREAK--- Special Election Sample Ballot November 7, 2023 widening and sidewalk, general street repair, milling and resurfacing, new sidewalks/trails, repair sidewalks, curbs and gutters, maintenance equipment; utility projects including water line replacement and upgrades, wastewater and stormwater replacement and upgrades, maintenance equipment; renovations to historically significant municipal buildings in Downtown Calhoun; 3) funding capital projects and equipment for the City of Fairmount that include but not necessarily limited to street widening projects, curb and gutters, sidewalks, storm drains, and shoulder repair, street maintenance equipment, culvert repair and replacements, and parking lots; land and/or building purchase for municipal buildings, construct new or renovate City Hall, Library, and Police Department headquarters, renovations to municipal buildings; recreation facility renovations, recreation equipment; water and sewer system tanks and pump stations; 4) funding capital projects and equipment for the City of Plainville that include but not necessarily limited to storm water management plan that includes engineering studies, water way along Plainville Road, update culverts, and erosion control; ball field rehabilitation, City Hall roof and gutter, update/extend playground area, purchase of a tractor and other capital equipment; traffic and regulatory signage and decorative lights; and; 5) funding capital projects and equipment for the Town of Resaca that include but not necessarily limited to road improvements and maintenance, water and/or sewer system improvements, recreation facilities, city hall facilities, public works facilities, and other public safety and welfare improvements?
