(Ordinance No. 2025) Additional Requirements for Construction AN ORDINANCE BY THE COUNTY COMMISSION OF GORDON COUNTY, GEORGIA TO AMEND CHAPTER 4 OF THE GORDON COUNTY CODE OF ORDINANCES WHEREAS, the County’s technical building and construction codes are set forth in Chapter 4 of its code; and WHEREAS, the County has plenary authority to amend its technical building and construction codes, consistent with state law; and WHEREAS, the County desires to adopt additional requirements for construction; NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained and enacted by, and it is hereby ordained and enacted by the Gordon County Commission, as follows: SECTION ONE: The Code of Ordinances of Gordon County, Georgia, shall stand amended by inserting the following as Section 4.51 of Chapter 4, Article II, Division 3, which is presently reserved: “Sec. 4 51. Purpose and scope. Purpose. The purpose of this division is to provide for the local amendments to the technical codes. These requirements shall be followed in addition to those included in the technical codes. Footings. The following are additional requirements for footings: Two runs of one-half inch minimum, steel rebar. a. Rebar shall be evenly spaced horizontally and elevated off the floor of the footing a minimum of two and one half (2 inches and shall meet American Concrete Institute (ACI) Standard 318. b. Rebar must run continuously through footing, including any step downs and corners. c. Where it is necessary to piece rebar, it shall overlap a minimum of twelve (12”) inches. d. All rebar shall be tied together using approved tie wire. e. Rebar shall be installed in a neat and workman like manner. All grade stakes must be of metal material.” SECTION TWO: All laws and parts of law in conflict herewith are specifically repealed. ---PAGE BREAK--- SECTION THREE: It is hereby declared to be the intention of the Gordon County Commission that the sections, paragraphs, sentences, clauses and phrases of this enactment are severable, and if any phrase, clause, sentence, paragraph or section hereof shall be declared unconstitutional by the valid judgment or decree of any court of competent jurisdiction, such unconstitutionality shall not affect any of the remaining phrases, clauses, sentences, paragraphs and sections of this enactment, since the same would have been enacted by the Gordon County Commission without the incorporation herein of any such unconstitutional phrase, clause, sentence, paragraph or section. ADOPTED AND APPROVED by the Gordon County Commission at a regularly scheduled meeting on this day of 2025. Commissioners voting “Aye” and voting “No”.
