APPROVED BY CITY COUNCIL: CH – NON-EXEMPT CITY OF FONTANA LANDSCAPE INSPECTOR DEFINITION: Under general supervision, will perform varied duties related to the inspection of workmanship and materials of contract maintenance, public/private landscaping, park construction, renovation and assessment district landscaping; and performs related work as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The incumbent must have the ability to:  Inspect landscape materials, installation, and landscape maintenance contracts to ensure compliance and correction of deficiencies in maintenance; identify problem areas and direct remedial action to be taken.  Inspect work in progress and completed projects for adherence to plans, standards, and specifications for public landscaping and private landscaping required as part of the development process; recommend bond releases, project acceptance, tract acceptance and certificates of occupancy.  Record amounts of materials used and work performed.  Ensure compliance with state safety orders.  Prepare and submit progress or inspection reports.  Provide courteous and expeditious customer service to the general public and City department staff.  Demonstrate a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures, and work methods associated with assigned duties.  Respond to questions and concerns from the general public; provide information as appropriate, and resolve complaints.  Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.  Perform any other tasks or functions deemed necessary to the daily operations of the employer. THE ABOVE LIST OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS IS NOT EXHAUSTIVE AND MAY BE SUPPLEMENTED AS NECESSARY BY THE EMPLOYER. WORKING CONDITIONS: Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting and turning while entering and exiting a motor vehicle or on foot within the City limits. Incumbents may be required to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The position requires near, far, and color vision. Incumbents work in all weather conditions, around moving traffic and frequently deal with irate members of the public. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES: A combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. The incumbent must have knowledge of:  Methods, techniques, materials, equipment and safety hazards of park construction, renovation and maintenance. ---PAGE BREAK--- LANDSCAPE INSPECTOR Page 2  Applicable Federal, State and municipal laws, codes, and regulations.  Principles and practices of engineering design and inspection.  Terminology, methods, and techniques used in engineering report preparation.  Methods and techniques for record keeping.  Methods and practices of inspection.  Codes and regulations governing construction of assigned projects.  Principles, methods and equipment used in landscape cultivation and maintenance.  Landscape and irrigation design. EXPERIENCE: Three years experience in inspection of landscape; installation and maintenance of landscape; and construction or repair of landscape. EDUCATION: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, with supplemental specialized courses in engineering, horticulture, landscape architecture, or closely related field. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Possession of, and continuously throughout employment, a valid California Class Driver’s License.
