M-TH The deferral of any portion or item of an application for plan check is highly discouraged. However, it is recognized that in some specific cases, it is necessary to defer a portion or item of an application for plan check. In these extraordinary cases, a request can be made to the Department of Building & Safety to defer the portion or item to a future date. All requests to defer a portion or item of an application for plan check must be approved by the Building Official, or his/her designee, prior to the submittal of the incomplete application to the Department of Building & Safety. An incomplete application for plan check cannot be accepted for review without prior approval for the deferment of the portion(s)/item(s) being granted. The deferring of a portion(s)/item(s) of an application for plan check may cause a delay of the final inspection and/or the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy for the project. If deferral of a portion(s)/item(s) of an application for plan check is approved by the Department of Building & Safety, the following will be applicable: 1) The portion(s)/item(s) being deferred must be clearly indicated on the construction documents/plans as being deferred, and; 2) It must be clearly indicated on the construction documents/plans that all portion(s)/item(s) being deferred shall: a. be reviewed by the design professional in responsible charge; and b. the construction documents shall be stamped “Approved”, “Reviewed and Approved”, or equal similar wording indicating that the deferred item(s) have been reviewed by the design professional in responsible charge and are in conformance with the design of the project, and; c. require a separate submittal to the Department of Building & Safety for plan check, and; d. not be installed prior to the plan check for the item being approved by the Department of Building & Safety.
