News Release City of Fernley Leslieann Hayden City Manager’s Office Voice (775) 784-9851 Fax (775) 784-9869 [EMAIL REDACTED] 9/22/08 www.cityoffernley.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Fernley Fall Festival Receives Great Turnout! This year’s Fall Festival was an amazing success! Staff counted over 2000 participants throughout the day! The success of the festival would not have been possible without the help of all our city team members, volunteers, vendors, and donations! We had volunteers from Fernley Elementary PTA, the Youth City Council, Taj Dance Troop, Fernley Youth Theater, Fernley Artist Guild, Fernley Arts & Culture Commission, as well as a tremendous amount of volunteers from throughout the region! We had an afternoon of fun filled activities from face painting, scarecrow factory, sack races, horseshoes, jumping castles, great music and dancing for everyone. The Youth City Council was able to raise $400.00 for the “Safe & Spooktacular Trick or Treat” program from their annual scarecrow factory. Additionally, Fernley Elementary PTA’s food and games sales from the event go directly back into other school activities. We had other great vendors who created a dynamic afternoon for our Fernley families, the Comstock Cowboys, Lattin Farms, Sierra Safari Zoo, Karen Roesler “Six Pines” local Honey, the Fernley Artist’s Guild, Winn Satterly Murals, the Grand Order of the Caribous #69, all contributed to the festivities. We had an incredible addition this year with the City of Fernley’s Animal Control staff organizing a low-cost vaccination clinic, provided by Palomino Valley Pet Rescue, for our four legged residents. The response to the clinic was overwhelming, as we ran out of vaccine and are in the process of scheduling a separate vaccination clinic. Additional animal service providers and volunteers who participated in the Festival were Reno Turtle & Tortoise Rescue, Reno Area Avian Enthusiast (RAVE), LRTC/Wild Horse Mentors, locals Karen Mock and Bonnie Hernandez who helped staff the animal center. So many people made the event happen from beginning to end. A very special “Thanks” to the Mayor, City Council, and City Manager for their ongoing support. “Thanks” go out to the following people and groups, the Fall Festival organizing team: Dina Lindeck-Rudy, Bonnie Duke, Keith Penner, Dale Dunham, Randy Gahr, Rex Albisu, Troy Hulsey, Lynette Cheyenne-Higgins and Kevin Schumacher and the Youth City Council. Thank you to the Fernley Elementary School PTA (Laura Woolsey and her team of volunteers), Lattin Farms for the incredible decorations, Ben Fairless for providing his wagon for hay- rides, and Lyon County Room Tax Board for providing funds for advertising the event. Thank you all! If you were unable to make it this year, we hope to see you next year! For more information about city events and activities, please contact the City Manager’s Office at 775- 784-9859.
