News Release City of Fernley Gary Bacock, City Manager Voice (775) 784-9851 Fax (775) 784-9839 [EMAIL REDACTED] June 8, 2006 www.cityoffernley.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Mayor Stix Proclaims June 10, 2006 as Small Cities and Towns Day in Fernley Fernley, NV—June 08, 2006 – As support to the National League of Cities’ efforts to bring attention to the special and unique needs of small cities and communities in the nation, Fernley Mayor David Stix, Jr., proclaimed June 10, 2006 as Small Cities and Towns Day in Fernley. Content of Proclamation below: WHEREAS, small cities and towns under 50,000 population constitute the vast majority of municipalities across the United States; and WHEREAS, small cities and towns provide opportunities which allow millions of people across America to lead better lives; and WHEREAS, small cities and towns invest in their communities through the provision of services and programs which improve the quality of life for all citizens; and WHEREAS, the federal government is a partner in investing in small cities and towns, and must be encouraged to continue to support programs and legislation to strengthen communities; and WHEREAS, state governments are partners in investing in small cities and towns, and must be encouraged to continue to support efforts that make their communities better places in which to live; and WHEREAS, organizations, businesses, and citizens are partners in investing in small cities and towns, and must be encouraged to continue to support efforts that make their communities better place in which to live; and WHEREAS, the Board of Directors and Small Cities Council of the National League of Cities have declared June 10, 2006, as National Small Cities and Town Day and has challenged all cities, towns, and villages across America to proclaim June 10, 2006, as National Small Cities and Towns Day, and to highlight the different ways in which the federal government, state government, organizations, businesses, and citizens partner with small cities and towns to invest in their communities and better the lives of all citizens; WHEREAS, The City of Fernley encourages President Bush, Congress, state government, organizations, businesses, and all citizens to recognize this event, and to work together on this day and throughout the year to invest in small cities and towns to better the lives of all citizens. NOW, THEREFORE, I, DAVID STIX, JR., MAYOR OF THE CITY OF FERNLEY, do hereby proclaim June 10, 2006, as NATIONAL SMALL CITIES & TOWNS DAY IN FERNLEY, NEVADA. -End-
