Fernley, NV – July 07, 2006 – Fernley’s youth learn about the City during the City’s 5th Birthday Celebration. Over 75 youth from Fernley’s COMPASS Youth Summer Program and the Fernley Library Summer Program stopped to wish the City a Happy Birthday and share in the festivities. The COMPASS youth (ages 8 to 14) were invited into Council Chambers to learn about City Hall and ask questions to Mayor David Stix, Jr., Councilman Curt Chaffin, and Municipal Court Judge Daniel Bauer. The youth inquired about the duties of the Mayor, when the Bowling Center will open, if the judge arrests people, and many more. Mayor Stix has scheduled a meeting with the youth to talk more about city government, city growth, and commercial amenities coming to Fernley. This will be an opportunity for the youth to ask questions and share their views. Mayor Stix understands the value of youth input and how important it is to share information with the next generation of leaders. During the visit, the youth expressed an interest in participating in a mock trial and City Council meeting. The City will be working with the COMPASS program to organize these activities.
