News Release City of Fernley City Manager’s Office Voice (775) 784-9851 Fax (775) 784-9869 [EMAIL REDACTED] 11/23/09 www.cityoffernley.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Ethics Complaint Dismissed Against Fernley Public Works Director Fernley, NV – November 23, 2009 – At the “All City Employee” meeting, City Manager Greg Evangelatos announced news that the State of Nevada has dismissed another ethics complaint filed by Fernley resident Sandra Mathewson against Public Works Director, Lowell Patton. During the November 12, 2009 Ethics Panel hearing, the Ethics Commission dismissed all allegations filed against Mr. Patton in their entirety with no findings of violations. The complaint, filed by Sandra Mathewson, a Fernley resident, alleged that Mr. Patton misused city funds to a personal benefit, included 16 separate allegations. Thirteen of the allegations were dismissed by the Ethics Panel in May 2009. In total all 16 allegations filed by Mathewson were dismissed by the Nevada Commission on Ethics and found to be without merit. City Manager, Greg Evangelatos said “We are pleased to be exonerated of yet another ethics complaint. The Ethics Commission’s determinations validate that our city staff and officials are committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards.” He added, “This is one of many meritless complaints against city employees filed by Sandra Mathewson since construction of the Water Treatment Facility. Hopefully, with the completion of the Water Treatment Facility we can move on as a community and focus on what needs to accomplish to navigate our city through these difficult economic times.” Additionally, the Ethics Commission dismissed all complaints filed against former City Manager Gary Bacock and former City Treasurer Bonnie Duke.
