News Release City of Fernley Gary Bacock, City Manager Voice (775) 784-9851 Fax (775) 784-9839 [EMAIL REDACTED] 08/20/06 www.cityoffernley.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE “TAG” Cleans up City Parks as City Kicks-Off Zero Tolerance Campaign Against Graffiti Fernley, NV – August 20, 2006 – Armed with protective goggles, gloves, scrubbies and a spray can of graffiti remover, 30 youth and adult volunteers joined together at In Town and Out of Town parks to clean up someone else’s mess. The volunteers were supervised by the City’s Parks department staff and provided a donated lunch by Port of Subs. The group of volunteers from Fernley’s Universal Tae Kwon Do named themselves the TAG Team, Tae Kwon Do Against Graffiti. The TAG Team has been working with City of Fernley Mayor David Stix, the City Parks department, other city departments, and local business to combat local graffiti. The City of Fernley has adopted a “Zero Tolerance” policy towards graffiti,” stated Mayor Stix, “parent and community involvement are essential to sending the message that graffiti is unacceptable in Fernley.” The City, in partnership with Sherwin Williams, ComPass, MSC Industries and Universal Tae Kwon Do, have developed graffiti clean up kits that are available to the public for $10.00 each. Funds from the kits go directly back into the program to purchase additional kits and provide anti –graffiti educational materials. Kits are available by contacting the City of Fernley’s Parks Department at 784.9981. Graffiti vandalism is a crime! If you see graffiti in progress, call the Lyon County Dispatch at 575- 3838. If you spot graffiti on a building, wall, fence etc., Call the City of Fernley Building Departement at 784-9810 and tell them the location of the graffiti. # # #
