Fernley Mayor David Stix, Jr., and Fernley City Council Members as well as community groups, local businesses, and City staff are joining in a series of events to honor Fernley's 5th birthday as an incorporated City. July 1st - the official anniversary of the City's incorporation; will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 5th - with birthday cake served at City Hall from 11:00 am till 6:00 pm (while supplies last). The celebration will continue throughout the month of July with a number of lectures, art exhibits, concerts, and other events planned throughout the month of July. “Fernley is a great place to live, work, raise families, and visit. July 1st marks our 5th year as a City. I am proud of our many accomplishments in such a short time.” Mayor David Stix, Jr., In March 2001, the citizens of Fernley elected a Mayor and five new City Council members, to jump-start the new City to be effective July 1, 2001. Under the Mayor and Council’s leadership and policy direction, the City Manager’s Office and City staff have worked diligently to continue Fernley’s commitment to excellent service to its residents, businesses and visitors. The City’s vision for the past five years places people first through providing service excellence. We have strived to ensure that Fernley is a safe, sustainable, and quality environment. Our focus is to support the expanding needs and expectations of our residents and businesses. Our strategic priorities set out a plan for service excellence and building our future. Our challenge is to enhance our service, optimize cost efficiencies, and maximize staff effectiveness. The following is a snapshot of the tremendous accomplishments of the City in the first five years. In any organization, the first five years under new leadership, are considered a benchmark that sets the direction and pace for the work that follows. The Mayor and Fernley City Council has concentrated its attention on making Fernley special - a safe, clean, and quality place to call home. As a staff, we will continue to advance this vision of Fernley. We have placed the accomplishments into areas that are of particular interest as Fernley approaches its 5th anniversary.
