News Release City of Fernley Gary Bacock, City Manager Voice (775) 784-9851 Fax (775) 784-9839 [EMAIL REDACTED] 07/29/06 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE City to Honor Fernley’s Fourth of July Committee Fernley, NV – July 29, 2006: The City of Fernley is honoring the Fernley Fourth of July Committee at the August 02, City Council Meeting starting at 6pm. The Mayor and City Council will recognize the Committee for their outstanding contribution to our community as they are presented with the City’s Meritorious Community Service Award. To mark the achievements of the Fernley Fourth of July Committee, Mayor, David Stix, Jr., will present the committee with a framed certificate. The City of Fernley Meritorious Community Service Award is given in recognition of individuals or groups who undertake vital and contributory work in the community without expecting anything in return. The Fernley Fourth of July Committee has been organizing and sponsoring the annual Fourth of July celebration here in Fernley for over thirty years. The committee is comprised of community members who volunteer their time and efforts, throughout the year, to assure that Fernley celebrates “our nation the old fashioned way. Each year the celebration starts with a parade down Main St., and then continues with a full day of events at the Out-Of-Town park including, vendor booths, great food, live music, a show and shine car show, and lots of fun and games for adults and children alike (like the annual greased pig contest). The day ends with a beautiful and awe- inspiring fireworks show” (Fernley Fourth of July Committee). Mayor David Stix, Jr., said, “Fernley is a great place to live, I have met so many people who carry out work for others without reward, and we greatly appreciate their endeavors. This type of community work very often goes unrecognized and I feel very privileged to be able to have such an opportunity to show our appreciation of their years of efforts.” # # #
