News Release City of Fernley Gary Bacock, City Manager Voice (775) 784-9851 Fax (775) 784-9869 [EMAIL REDACTED] 3/17/06 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE City facilitates WAL-MART coming to Fernley Fernley, NV—March 17, 2006 Wal-Mart filed for a design review and it was approved in December 2005 with several conditions. Wal-Mart officials disagreed with one of the conditions related to sewer improvements and appealed to the Fernley Planning Commission. The appeal was to be heard at the March 8th Planning Commission meeting. However, separately, prior to and during the Planning Commission meeting, City staff met administratively with the Wal-Mart Officials to review possible alternatives to the special sewer requirements. City staff and Wal-Mart officials were able to come to agreement on reasonable sewer improvements for the project. With this administrative resolution, there was no longer a need to forward the matter to the Planning Commission. By virtue of the alternative agreement, Wal-Mart withdrew its appeal of the original condition. Mayor Stix said, “The recent adoption of the sewer master plan has helped City staff identify current and future sewer capacity needs. The plan was used to facilitate the modified conditions and agreements made with Wal-Mart, and the plan will be used in a similar way for all future projects impacting the sewer system.”
