Jones will not be released until bail has been posted. His “sentence” - to serve time raising “bail” in the form of donations to the March of Dimes. The bail he is helping to raise helps support lifesaving programs of research, community services and education. On Wednesday, the Nevada Chapter of the March of Dimes will hold its annual "Jail & Bail" fundraiser at the Round Table Pizza in Fallon. This year, community members, including Councilman Rick Jones, voluntarily are participating in the mock jail and will be calling up donors to raise bail money. This year, they hope to raise over $10,000 for the March of Dimes. For Jones, this is a personal cause close to his heart. Jones is striving to inform Nevada men of just how great their role is in the child bearing process. "Men Have Babies, Too." Jones said. The March of Dimes has been working for 60 years to help prevent birth defects and to generally promote public health. The March of Dimes spends $27 million per year on medical research. Many great discoveries have come from this research including the identification of fetal alcohol a common birth defect. March of Dimes money went to Jonas Salk's polio research, which came to fruition with the discovery of a polio vaccine. In the 1960's, scientists backed by the March of Dimes found the double helix of DNA which moved our knowledge of genetics a huge step forward. Last year the March of Dimes spent nearly $10 million to create a national toll-free hotline that people can call to have any of their questions about pregnancy answered. Ten highly trained health professionals are on call with knowledge and resources to properly deal with any query. They receive 60 weekly medical journals, they have a library of medical texts and access to an enormous internet data base. This resource line has such a complete body of information that very frequently they get calls from doctors who need an issue cleared up. Finally, if you would like to donate to the March of Dimes and bail Councilman Jones out and help them in their fight for healthy pregnancies for all, you can contact the Northern Nevada Division March of Dimes at [PHONE REDACTED] or Councilman Jones at 775- 575-6568. -End-
