The City of Fernley’s strategic plan calls for the expansion of Fernley City Hall. The 4 ½ acre site will soon include an expanded City Hall, community meeting rooms, space for art exhibits, as well as a park plaza area. U.S. Congressman Jim Gibbons believes Fernley’s strategic focus for the future supports the City’s economy and Fernley residents and businesses who require City services. "A civic center plays a unique and critical role in the community. The City Hall expansion is designed to respond quickly and effectively to the needs of local citizens, businesses and industries. That strong commitment to residents of Fernley demonstrates leadership and creates a culture of pride in the community they serve." The long-term plan for the Civic Center includes an emergency operations center, planned space for state and county agencies to provide services locally in Fernley, i.e., a possible Department of Motor Vehicles outlet, and county health services, community meeting rooms available for local groups as well as a park plaza for special community events. Mayor David Stix supports the plan and role that a Civic Center plays in the community. “Civic Centers play an integral part of any community - providing a hub for community involvement and activities. This expansion not only addresses the immediate office space needs for the employees but will help advance community opportunities today and well into the future.” Planning Commissioner Bert McCoy supports the City’s vision for the future and its anticipated positive impact on the Fernley economy. "This planned expansion of the existing City Hall, is needed not only to accommodate current needs but will address the needs of the City well into the next several decades. This is another example of the City leaders anticipating the current and future needs of Fernley residents."
