News Release City of Fernley Gary Bacock, City Manager Voice (775) 784-9851 Fax (775) 784-9839 [EMAIL REDACTED] 3/10/06 www.cityoffernley.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Fernley, NV—March 10, 2006 Mayor David Stix, Jr., today reiterated his personal condolences and those of the residents of Fernley to the family of Diana Wagner, a strong supporter of Fernley youth and quality of life issues. Soon after hearing of Diana Wagner’s death, Mayor Stix talked with city staff members about Diana’s death and his own personal sorrow at the news. Mayor Stix said. “While the death of any friend is hard to accept, this news was a personal blow to me. She was a wonderful member of our community, Fernley has lost one of its best friends, a woman who exemplified community involvement and whose vision led our community into the future for generations to come." Diana Wagner, a devoted wife and mother and tireless community volunteer, was instrumental in developing the AYSO of Fernley and the Fernley soccer fields, the local PTA, Friends of the Library, and active troop leader for both the Boy and Girl Scouts of Fernley. Her other initiatives included securing a grant from NDOT to conduct a bike lane study for the City of Fernley, and collaborating with many local agencies helping to build and promote Fernley’s youth programs, always striving to make Fernley a nice place for children. In appreciation of Diana’s selfless work for the youth of our community, the City of Fernley is dedicating a memorial garden for Diana at the Ten Acre Multi-purpose field, Out of the Town Park. Ceremonies are scheduled to coincide with the opening day of soccer season, Tuesday, September 5th, 2006. We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the entire Wagner family. May Diana’s memory be a blessing and may the entire family be comforted among the mourners of Fernley. -End-
