In a presentation by Interim City Manager Fred Turnier, the Council was informed that the City had seen a decrease in utility costs for the first four months of the year by closing City Hall one day per week. Salary savings was also experienced in the form of decreased overtime expenses. Should those trends continue the City could realize over $24,000 in annual savings by adhering to the Monday through Thursday schedule. Interim City Manager Turnier relayed a majority of responses stemming from polling both internal and external customers about the change resulted in positive feedback. City Hall will continue to be open Monday through Thursday, 8am to 6pm, except holidays. City employees will continue to report to work at seven o’clock which will give them an hour of “quiet” time to conduct internal meetings, work on special projects, and/or prepare assignments for the day. Residents needing utilities turned on or off may still schedule service on Fridays, but must make requests at (775) 784-9930 prior to 5:00pm on the Thursday before the requested service. Building inspections may also be arranged for Fridays at an additional fee of $47 per hour by scheduling appointments on or before the Thursday prior to the appointment date.
