News Release City of Fernley Shari L. Whalen, P.E. Public Works Department Voice (775) 784-9910 Fax (775) 784-9966 [EMAIL REDACTED] 09/07/2011 www.cityoffernley.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE In Town Park Tennis Courts Completed Fernley, Nevada - September 7, 2011 - On Friday, September 2nd, the final striping was completed on the two, newly resurfaced, tennis courts located at the In Town Park. The project was approved by City Council on June 15, 2011 and was completed using Residential Construction Tax, RCT, revenue. These funds are acquired from developers during residential construction projects and are obligated to the creation or improvement of local parks. The goal of the project was to rehabilitate the playing surface of the two eastern courts which, at the time, was not usable as well as correct drainage issues on both of the courts. Advanced Asphalt was awarded the contract to remove the old surfacing and overlay a new asphalt surface that would repair existing cracks in the surface and drain water away from the new playing surface. This work began during the week of July 11th and was concluded on July 15th. After allowing the new asphalt to cure, Color Crafters, a subcontractor of Advanced Asphalt, applied a five coat acrylic finish as well as new striping. At the request of local residents, “pickleball” lines were also added to one of the courts at no cost to the City. The courts are opened each morning by the Parks crew and closed at dusk each evening. If you have any questions, please call 784-9910.
