2040 MTP MPO staff continue to develop the 2040 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). This is the long-range transportation plan and vision for the urbanized region that includes the cities of Aztec, Bloomfield, and Farmington, and the surrounding areas of San Juan County. The MTP addresses transportation needs for the next 25 years and identifies transportation project priorities and policies. It includes roads, transit, bicycle, pedestrian, freight, equestrian and aviation. The MTP also outlines strategies for addressing safety, accessibility, mobility, and connectivity for all modes. The MTP update began with an outreach effort last year, and as a draft MTP is prepared, stakeholder and public meetings will be held to assure the community’s voice is captured. STUDENT ARRIVAL COUNTS Spring 2015 student arrival counts for the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program were recently completed at Animas, Apache, Ladera, McKinley, and Mesa Verde Elementary Schools. These counts are taken to see how students arrive at school by bus, personal vehi- cle, or walking/biking. TRANSIT HUB STUDY The Farmington MPO, in coordination with the City of Farmington and Red Apple Transit, has contracted with H u i t t - Z o l l a r s t o prepare a transit hub study. The intent of the study is to identify two or three hub locations . The location would need to adequately accommodate the future ridership of over 200,000 trips per year, and house daily transit operations, including business offices, a conference/meeting/training room, a dispatch office and ticket counter, public restrooms, employee restrooms and a driver break room. Other considerations are creating covered areas for passengers transferring between buses, as well as space for employee parking. Estimated development costs, including land acquisition & construction, will need to be provided as part of the study.
