La Plata Street, Farmington, NM 87401 Meals Served: Monday – Friday 11:45am – 1:00 pm Suggested Donation $3.00 for anyone 60+ $6.00 for 59 and younger. November is American Diabetes Month and Thanksgiving, a time known for heavy meals, sugary deserts and colder weather. If you have Diabetes (either Type 1 or Type it is important to monitor your blood sugars regularly and to stay active throughout the colder months. If you have either form of Diabetes you can work to minimize the long term effects by: Exercising at least 3 times a week Monitoring your blood sugars regularly Controlling high blood pressure and high cholesterol Eating more fruits and vegetables and less high carbohydrate high fat foods Taking your medications as prescribed by your doctor The Farmington Area has many outreach and support programs you can take for free, to learn more about diabetes: San Juan Regional Medical Center offers free Diabetes education classes that meet once a week for six weeks. The Bonnie Dallas Senior Center is one of only two centers in the San Juan County area that serves a completely Diabetic friendly meal program. Each meal must contain a strict amount of fat, calories, carbohydrates and sodium to be served and must be approved through a stringent review process that often takes up to two weeks and several revisions to qualify as an “Approved Menu”.
