BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF SJC Want a “Big?” Sycamore Park Community Center is partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters to provide a year round site-based program for kids ages 5 – 13. For an application or more information, call Natalie at 566-2481. MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS TUNES FOR TOTS (Formerly MUSICAL MONDAYS) Musical Mondays is Tunes for Tots! This music, story-telling, and crafts program will remain the same, but will now be offered twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting in September at the Farmington Museum, 3041 E. Did you know New Mexico has its very own State Fossil??? Do you know what it is??? Come join us to find out and we will make our very own fossils. October 26- Dia de los Muertos- Sugar Skulls Mexico celebrates a yearly tradition called Day of the Dead during the last days of October and the first days of November. Come by and make a Sugar Skull out of a paper plate, then add your skull to a pretty cool DIY frame. Put them all together for an out of this world Dia de los Muertos decoration. November 9—Flag Pins—Thank You Veterans November 11 is Veterans Day, come and make a flag pin with safety pins and beads. OCTOBER 4 HARVEST PARTY Don’t miss the 4th annual Harvest Party at Sycamore Park Community Center, 1051 Sycamore St., 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. This is a free event that is a lot of fun for the whole family. OCTOBER 9 SWIM SHUTTLE Meet at Sycamore Park Community Center, 1051 Sycamore, for the Swim Shuttle to the Farmington Aquatic Center, 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. All participants must be 6 years or older, have a signed permission slip, and fee of $2.00 per person for Wet-N-Wild Wednesdays. Remember, basketball shorts are not allowed and you must have proper swimwear. Info: (505) 566-2480 OCTOBER 11 & 12 COED KICKBALL TOURNAMENT Get a team together and register for the Recreation Center’s 7th Annual Adult Coed Kickball Tournament! All players must be 18 years of age or older. Teams consist of five men and five women on the field. The maximum amount of players on a team roster is 15 players. Prizes for 1st and 2nd place will be awarded. Don’t miss the fun! Registration will be September 11 through October 7 at 8:00 p.m. Register early on-line or at the Farmington Recreation Center. $40.00 a team. Dodgeball, basketball, wallyball, four square, music, movies, board games, good eats, and more is on the agenda! This is a great place to hang out with your friends! OCTOBER 16 SKATEWAY USA FIELD TRIP Join us at Sycamore Park Community Center, 1051 Sycamore, for a trip to Skateway USA from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Fees are $5 to get in and skate rental is $2 for quads or $3 for blades. OCTOBER 25 SWIMMING LESSON REGISTRATION Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. at the Farmington Aquatic Center, 1151 N. Sullivan, until classes are full. Remember – you can register online beginning at 8:00 a.m. on registration day,.by going to www.fmtn.org/aquatics, under the Quick Links tab on the right. Classes run four weeks for two days a week starting on October 28. Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday in the morning for Preschool and Tuesday/Thursday evening for Preschool and Levels. OCTOBER 26 STARS & STORIES Meet at the Riverside Nature Center in Animas Park off Browning Parkway at 7:00 p.m. This early evening walk is an opportunity to learn autumn stars, constellations, and the which help remember them on a stroll of about an hour and a half through Animas Park. Dress for the weather, and bring a flashlight. Binoculars are helpful. Children should be old enough to understand listening quietly. No pets, please. Arrington, at 7:00 p.m. Pinkalicious can't stop eating pink cupcakes despite warnings from her parents. Her pink indulgence lands her at the doctor's office with Pinkititis, an affliction that turns her pink from head to toe - a dream come true for this pink loving enthusiast. Mr. Bowman uses stone and antler tools to make points of all types and sizes, while explaining his craft and the way in which ancient people hunted and lived. This is your chance to see a fine demonstration and ask questions. A few samples may be available for sale. NOVEMBER 23 SUNRISE COMET WALK Meet at the Riverside Nature Center in Animas Park off Browning Parkway from 6:00 to 7:30 a.m. A recently-discovered comet, Comet ISON, should be visible just before sunrise on this morning. Astronomers think Comet ISON may be the comet which was last visible in 1608, when it was noted by Spanish explorers in the Southwest and other viewers around the world. Hope for clear weather, and come for the Nature Center’s first-ever Sunrise Walk to see it. Of course, in any weather, we will also see the animals which are active at sunrise, and perhaps even an owl. Come at 6:00 a.m. for coffee or hot chocolate before we start our walk of about 2 miles. The event starts at 9:00 a.m., will be held at Orchard Park on Main Street, and features a 5K Turkey Trot and a 2 Mile Gobble Wobble walk. Electronic chip timing by Chase 3. Registration is $20.00.
