Handmade Art Show NOW – Saturday, September 7 Come explore the artistic wealth of the Four Corners region at Handmade, the newest temporary art exhibit at the Farmington Museum, 3041 E. Main St. The opening reception is free to the public and will include light refreshments and live music. Some items will be for sale. Admission to the exhibit is free. All productions are presented in the Lions Wilderness Park Amphitheater. Tuesday Twilight League 5:30 shotgun start NOW through September Piñon Hills Golf Course, 2101 Sunrise Parkway, will host this event (July 2, 16 & 30, August 13) Play is open to anyone—regardless of handicap! This will be a fun, quick, 9-hole, early evening event with a payout each play day. Some weeks we will play the front nine, others the back nine. The entry fee is only $10 - and the special Twilight League rate is only $15 – and that includes your green fee and cart! Pass- holders pay a $10 cart fee to play. All you need to do is visit or call the Pro Shop and register by 5:00 pm on the Monday prior to play day. Info: (505) 326-6066 or Wildlife Wednesdays 9:00 a.m. – Noon REGISTER BEFORE JULY 3, for July 10, 17, 24, 31, & August 7 Need a special summer activity for kids ages 7 -12? Wildlife Wednesdays is a five-week series of outdoor activities and hikes at the Riverside Nature Center, in Animas Park off Browning Parkway, on Wednesday mornings. Each week’s session is different, as we learn about bugs, birds, trails, the water creatures in the Animas River, plants, and more. Sessions start at 9:00 a.m. and end at 12:00 noon, with a snack included. Pre-registration is required by July 3 at the Nature Center or the Farmington Museum. Fee is $20.00. Info: 599-1422 ---PAGE BREAK--- Skateboard Competition Registration -11:00 a.m., Competition – Noon Wednesday, July 4 Come by the skate park in Brookside Park, Dustin & 20th St., for a FREE skateboarding competition brought to you by Sycamore Park Community Center. The competition is a game of SKATE with a double eliminatio bracket. There will be 3 age divisions: 10 & Under, 11-14, and 15 & Up. The competition is free, but all competitors must sign a waiver. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 in each age group. Mosaic Madness 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Fridays, July 5, & August 2 Kids 8 years and older will enjoy this FREE class held at the Farmington Museum, 3041 E. Main St. Classes are dedicated to the ancient art of mosaics, held the first Friday of each month, June through August. Kids will learn how to make several different forms of mosaic with a variety of objects, from tiles and marbles, to seashells and glass. Attend one or all! Space is limited. Info: (505) 599-1174 be Yo Down Show Down Workshop - 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Friday, July 5 Competition – 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 6 Hosted by the E3 Children’s Museum & Science Center 302 Orchard Ave., the workshop is in preparation for the Annual Yo Down Show Down at the Children’s Museum on Saturday, registration at 1:00 p.m., during Downtown Freedom Days. Yo-Yo Man Extraordinaire, Luke Renner, will conduct a yo-yo workshop at the Children’s Museum where yo-yo fans can learn the tricks they will need for the Annual Yo Down Show Down the next day. Participants should bring their own yo-yo to the workshop. The Annual Yo Down Show Down is open to all ages and skill-levels for everybody and will showcase the abilities of some of our youngest museum patrons. The contest will take place during the Annual Ice Cream Social at the Children’s Museum during Downtown Freedom Days. Visitors will be treated to an eye-dazzling display – this is a chance to show off your skills and learn new tricks. Annual Freedom Days Ice Cream Social Saturday, July 6 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Come by the E3 Children’s Museum & Science Center and cool down during Freedom Days with family entertainment; ice cream sundaes, root beer floats, cold drinks, hot dogs, fun photos, yo-yo demonstrations, ice cream eating contest, temporary tattoos, and a yo-yo contest. Entertainment also includes Four Corners Harmony, San Juan College Company, book signings by the San Juan County Historical Society, and wagon rides sponsored by Four Corners Antique Power Association. The tournament is flighted by combined HDCP, 80% used for scoring. This event is USGA HDCP required. The entry fee is $30, cart fee of $14, and a tournament green fee (plus cart) of $25 for non-pass-holders. Main St., from July 20 to September 21, 2013. Attend the docent training for this special exhibition of art from the permanent collection of the Guild Hall Museum, East Hampton, New York. Attendees will learn about the history of modern art, artists featured in the show, and techniques on how to lead tour groups. We'll stroll out to the Herb and Xeriscape Garden and eat in the newly built seating circle for a short program of poetry readings by more than one reader. Feel free to bring your favorite poem. The featured theme for July 12 is Nature and July 26 is Ralph Waldo Emerson. Afterwards, you may enjoy strolling in the park until sunset. In July, participants will have the opportunity to see the only true geyser in the state of Colorado. Space is limited. Lake, will have kittens for adoption at only $25, which is less than half the normal adoption fee. Liberate a kitty for Independence Day! Pets want to celebrate too! Stop by the Animal Shelter to visit all the furry friends waiting for their loving, forever home.
