FARMINGTON PRCA SURVEY 2014 Open Link Web Version Importance of PRCA Amenities How Much Household Needs Are Met Household Importance of PRCA Amenities/How Your Household Needs Are Being Met 5 Single, no children Have not had a chance to use facilities 5 5 Couple with children at home I think we would always like more services, but I am truly impressed with the programs and services PRCA offers. 5 5 Couple with children at home The Animas River Trail, Aquatic Center and many neighborhood parks with playgrounds are all assets to the Farmington area. Sandstone Productions is a high point of the summer to locals and tourists alike! 5 5 Couple with children at home The parks are absolutely wonderful! The Riverwalk is the best!!! 5 5 Couple, children no longer at home I don't use a lot of the facilities but all seem top notch. 5 5 Couple, no children Farmington offers a wide variety of recreational amenities. While my immediate family only utilizes the outdoor amenities (bike trails, Frisbee golf course, golf course, etc.), the indoor activities offered to children are phenomenal (aquatic center, community centers, etc.) 5 5 Single, children no longer at home Love the Parks, River walk trails, and the Sandstone play area! 5 5 Single, children no longer at home The city parks department does a wonderful job of maintaining the beautiful parks available for everyone to use! Particularily the Nature Center is a great place to visit while walking in Animas or Berg Parks. 5 5 The bike trail going all the way to the Miller street bridge is absolutely awesome. 5 4 Couple with children at home A water wading area like Greenlake in Seattle--they have a wading area for kids. More bicycle routes in other parks besides Berg park. Bicycle lanes throughout city. Plus outdoor movies--Brookside, on the lawn just north of the restroom/playground would be a great place. More advertising for Brookside summer pool--the $1.00 movies are a hit, how about $1.00 pool times, 'swim 2 hours for $1.00.' More activities outside the Library--use the grassy areas, if not, why waste water? Install artificial grass. Highlight a playground or re-name just the playgrounds in each of the parks--Pirate Cove playground for one off 30th. 5 4 Couple with children at home Bathroom facilities are needed at: Vista DeLa Plata Park. This is a beautiful park with a gorgeous view and it needs a bathroom. 5 4 Couple with children at home I apprciate moving the accounting of PHGC to the general fund rather than an enterprise account. I don't like bark, either. 5 4 Couple with children at home I would like for there to be bathrooms available at all parks. Mothers often take their children to parks and it is very difficult to pack your belongings up(so no one steals them) and go find a bathroom. It is also unsanitary to have your children eat a meal at the park when there is not a place for them to wash their hands. 5 4 Couple with children at home I would like to see sun shade put up during the summer on all park equipment. What can we do to put money towards a better swimming facility at brookside pool? The showers don't work properly and it's a gross bathroom. But more importantly, why can't farmington have a nice kid swimming facility like Bloomfield? 5 4 Couple with children at home More activities would be good for middle age people. 5 4 Couple with children at home More marketing. Sometimes events are not marketed so I either don't know about or they have already passed. 5 4 Couple with children at home My family and I are all about out door activities. With 3 kids involved in every sport from soccer, to baseball to softball, and football outside and others inside. We also like the pools, the Frisbee golf and regular golf as well. With that said we would like to see the pool offer more things for the kids to goof around on, promote the Frisbee golf more as well. 5 4 Couple with children at home Tennis facility needs to be user friendly and utilized to its full potential. That is more tournaments and group activities. 5 4 Couple with children at home There is room for improvement! 5 4 Couple with children at home We have really enjoyed the golf courses, tennis courts, although some could use repairing and will be visiting the aquatic center soon. 5 4 Couple, children no longer at home I want to see the Outdoor Summer Theater at Lion's Wilderness Park thrive and continue. I am hopeful there will be progress with downtown development for this community, possibly as an arts center but maybe an even broader range of possibilities for all groups with shops, restaurants and activities that suit all age ranges and interest levels. And more programs/plays for young children 3-10. 5 4 Couple, children no longer at home Need safer road biking areas. The current bike lanes are not cleaned of debris regularly. Develop more road bike areas along river for families and children. It is difficult to ride on bricks. 5 4 Couple, children no longer at home We can always add to our amenities. We have a fabulous parks and rec structure now 5 4 Couple, children no longer at home We have some of the finest parks and facilities anywhere and they are important to our community's future economic growth. 5 4 Couple, children no longer at home Would like to see a bike walking path 5 4 Couple, no children I would like to see more connectivity of trails along the river 5 4 Single with children at home There could be more centers just like Sycamore Park Community Center. I believe that the Sycamore Center is one of the highly involved center in the Farmington area. I think the city does an outstanding job with sports. I am concerned about the attendance at the Connie Mack World series. I think so much of the seating has been given to season ticket holders that the general public has almost given up on the games. There were so many empty seats in the reserved sections last year that I found it embarrassing. Have you ever sat in the General Admission area? I have - once. I will never do that again. The seats and aisles are so crowded that, if there were an emergency, we would have people trampled in the attempt to get out. There must be a better way to promote these games for the general public, not just the elite of our town. Please brainstorm ideas to return this World Series to the general public. 5 4 Single, children no longer at home Looking for more variety in regards to adult activities instead of repeated activities from last year or year before. 5 4 Single, children no longer at home THERE SHOULD BE MORE FIELD TRIPS, DAY, WEEKEND,OR WEEK LONG FOR SENIORS WHO DO NOT HAVE A TRAVELING COMPANION. EX TO ALBUQUERQUE, SANTA FE, CASINOS, EXCURSIONS INTO NEIGHBORING STATES ETC. 5 4 Single, no children Farmington has a lot to offer recreationally, but there is always room to grow! A LOT more could be done to take advantage of our beautiful rivers. 5 4 Single, no children While most of the amenities and events have met my needs, I'd like to see more done with the Crouch Mesa Community Center. 5 4 Downtown is worse than neglected…..it is the City's magnet for street inebriates. Most of the investment there (stupid) has attracted more of them. Somehow the City needs to recognize that without a decent downtown Farmington will always stink. 5 3 Couple with children at home Bike lanes are not user friendly. The farmers market should be at the river park. RRC Associates IMPORTANCE OF AVAILABILITY: 1=Not At All Important, 5=Very Important MEETING HOUSEHOLD NEEDS: 1=Not At All, 5=Completely Page 4 of 38 ---PAGE BREAK--- FARMINGTON PRCA SURVEY 2014 Open Link Web Version Importance of PRCA Amenities How Much Household Needs Are Met Household Importance of PRCA Amenities/How Your Household Needs Are Being Met 5 3 Couple with children at home Fix what you have. The Rec Center needs work and Crouch Mesa Community Center is so full of kids nobody else can go. 5 3 Couple with children at home i would like to have more things at crouch mesa community center. My kids and i go there and we would like to have grass for the kids to play in and a gym for more things to do. I dont like it when they go to the school to play because there is not much for them at crouch mesa 5 3 Couple with children at home More recreational areas would be great. We are so hoping that the waterways project goes through. I think we should utilize the rivers for recreation. There are cities who use their waterways to benefit their communities greatly. Wouldn't that be awesome to have small shops along the waterway and such as that to draw people down there? The vagrants that hang around down there need to go away though. 5 3 Couple with children at home Need more children facilities around adult playing areas such as the sports complex area. 5 3 Couple with children at home Our family would like to see more bike paths. We all play racquetball and tennis and would like some tournaments. 5 3 Couple with children at home Shelters at parks are usually taken up by people who live in other areas of the county; it's hard for Farmington residents to get them. Also, we need a community center on the east side, like the one at Sycamore Park. 5 3 Couple with children at home There needs to be more activities and better advertising. Most of the time we don't know what's going on until the day before or the day of. 5 3 Couple with children at home We enjoy the summertime activities, but would like something for the cold months, if just to get out of the house. 5 3 Couple, children no longer at home Berg Park is very nice but I would like to see it expanded and improved, especially for bikers and I would also like to see it clear of street drunks. 5 3 Couple, children no longer at home Need more art activities for downtown art scene 5 3 Couple, children no longer at home The Civic Center is too small for most entertainment coming to Farmington. There is really no reason to 'hang out' in downtown Farmington, and the variety of restaurants is too few. Connie Mac is a huge family draw event. Backrests would sure make sitting more comfortable. If they do, they are benefited with the help of amenities for their physical limitations/disabilities. There are no activities and amenities for persons with mental limitations/disabilities. 5 2 Couple with children at home River trail is nice, but inadequate for a city this size. the current facilities look like they were very nice 20 years ago. 5 2 Couple with children at home The recreational amenities are not well advertised and are expensive to go swimming or other activities. The parks are not always kept clean, especially the Brookside park. 5 2 Couple, children no longer at home My wife had back surgery and is required to walk 2 miles a day for recovery. She uses the gym at the rec center Monday thru Friday from 12 to 1 for walking. there is no facility for her to walk on weekends. She is forced to walk on the streets. The sidewalks are up and down curbs and unsafe. the weather is not good for outside events. I am sure there are many others needing a place to walk safely. The tile floors at the mall is slick. A nice indoor walking something like at the collage would be a great asset for the people of Farmington. Disabled people really need this improvement. 5 2 Couple, children no longer at home The water temperature may serve the needs of swim meets but it's too cold for the rest of us. Me and my wife do laps in the big pool. We're both too cold to enjoy the amount of swimming we would like to do. Even the young kids playing at the deep end walk around blue and shivering. I brought my concern to the person in charge last year her response indicated nothing would be done. 5 2 Couple, children no longer at home There is no safe route across town. Where there are bike lanes there are the islands poking out from the curb periodically forcing cyclists out into traffic.....ie: Sandlewood and 30th street. The buses are nice to get people around, but the three towns are geared strictly towards keeping people in their cars. My small town in Wyoming which is about the same size can bring Pure prairie league, moody blues, 3 dog night 5 2 Couple, no children Farmington has focused on Sports for years and I like that but I have no children,we have a museum and libraries. That's great but we are lacking in the arts and the support of this community becoming a hub for the arts in this area and statewide. While we have many festivals each year these are all short-lived. I do support the arts and artists in this community and I would like to see the City of Farmington do more to not only support the arts in this community but also promote Farmington as a stopping point for tourists from around the country and the world to buy art for their collections.New Mexico has Taos, Santa Fe and Albuquerque and people worldwide think of those communities when they think of art and collecting it. Our community needs to promote itself as a premier destination for collectors worldwide. We need to have something similar to the 'Old Towns', that are found in other communities in our state. True support of local atisans is lacking all around in the City of Farmington and I would like to see that change 5 2 Couple, no children I would like to see more bike and running/walking paths. Also a party center. parties take over the parks, it would be cool if we had a place for extra large gatherings since these sometimes takeover the parks especially kawanas. There is almost no room for the people that live near the park when this happens. 5 2 Single, no children Most seem geared toward people with children and not much for those whose children are grown or those who do not have children. 5 2 Single, no children We need a new Recreation Center- -one like Durango's. We also need bike paths for safer city riding 5 2 Single, no children would like to see more of an art scene 5 2 We need more community art areas 5 1 Couple, no children civitan golf course needs maintainance attention RRC Associates IMPORTANCE OF AVAILABILITY: 1=Not At All Important, 5=Very Important MEETING HOUSEHOLD NEEDS: 1=Not At All, 5=Completely Page 7 of 38 ---PAGE BREAK--- FARMINGTON PRCA SURVEY 2014 Open Link Web Version Importance of PRCA Amenities How Much Household Needs Are Met Household Importance of PRCA Amenities/How Your Household Needs Are Being Met 4 4 Couple, children no longer at home I would like to see an Art Center downtown, to inject a bit of excitement into downtown and to provide for exhibits. The lobby of the Farmington Museum does not satisfy this need. 4 4 Couple, children no longer at home Need to publicize more about the amenities. I only hear about the golf course. What about the racket ball courts, basketball, etc. 4 4 Single, children no longer at home Don't live in Farmington but in Shiprock. Utilize the park for special family events, attend workshop/meeting/classes/etc sponsored by the city. Wish there were more classes like the recent one attended in December - papercraft. Other then that enjoyed a lot of the activities offered. 4 3 Couple with children at home yes.. bring some out of Farmington into the areas of aztec, bloomfield... we live out there and having to drive for 30 minutes to get to see or do is annoying. Many families do not have good or any transportation to Farmington and the red bus isn't as reliable or running for some of your activities.... we are a tri city group. These rodents can also carry disease. The skunk overrun in the park was also an issue this past summer. Also, the picnic tables were tied to trees and tree stumps using steel wire and my husband tripped over the wire and hurt himself because the wire was hidden under some brush. Need to find a better way to tie down tables. 5 5 Couple with children at home The sand volleyball court at the Park located on Farmington Avenue could be better maintained. There are too many rocks in the sand. 5 5 Couple, children no longer at home It would be nice if plastic bag dispensers for animal 'poop' cleanup was provide at all parks/recreation areas to allow owners to be more inclined to clean up after their pets. 5 5 Couple, children no longer at home Too bad there are not clean public restrooms downtown like the Malls have. 5 5 Single with children at home I do not feel safe in certain areas, like Brookside Park where there is so much drug and alcohol use going on. There also needs to be more restrooms and make sure some are open more, like at Lion's Creek Wilderness Disc Golf course. I also do not think there is enough programming for teenagers. 5 5 Single, children no longer at home I've been dismayed that the restrooms are not open year round. 5 5 Single, children no longer at home Safety concerns mainly on river trails.....esp the new trail west of Murray Dr. (where rivers come together). Very isolated but it's a beautiful area. Would not think of walking alone there and uneasy walking River Walk. It is better since thinning of undergrowth. 5 4 Couple with children at home As far as safety goes I do believe that the West parking lot behind the Rec. Center needs lights installed. It is dark and dangerous at night after softball games. There are nights that they turn the field lights off before you can get in your car and one of these days a kid is going to get hit in that parking lot and the city will be liable. Its scary and unsafe. It would be great if they were connected with routes and safe ways of getting between them, where a car is not needed. Currently there is really no connectivity between the parks. Also, more nature trail areas would be nice. Berg Park/Animas is great, but it isn't really long enough for family biking for very long. 5 4 Couple with children at home Farmington would benefit from having an ice rink. This would promote visitors coming to skate and play hockey and having hockey league and being a training facility too versus traveling out of state to like Colorado Springs. Bring revenue here to our town/community. Quit spending money on a gold course when we can add on an ice rink. This area has other golf courses. Please consider this venue seriously. 5 4 Couple with children at home I don't often hear about the programs, classes, information on the trails / natural areas or even events in the community and would be interested in seeing more marketing on that in the community. More public radio/ tv announcements would be great. The website is helpful but I believe more verbal and visual stimulation would engage the community better. 5 4 Couple with children at home I live in waterflow so everything is far ( understandably) Bathrooms at Berg park- sometimes not open early enough and/or late enough i wish there were more plays/shows/music etc...never enough 5 4 Couple with children at home Like everyone, i would like to see a trail and bike system throughout the city, not just a line painted on the streets. Maybe another GRT election to pay for it like we did to pay for PHGC, aquatic center and river project? 5 4 Couple with children at home Many of the parks do not have bathrooms, which is a problem. Often the soccer complex bathrooms are locked (maybe that has changed?). However, the tennis complex bathrooms are usually unlocked and very clean. Also, it would be helpful if the soccer complex had push button lights like the tennis courts. In the summer and fall when the weather is so nice, people want to play at the fields until late. It is unfortunate that the lights are not on longer. It is good and healthy for young people to be socializing and exercising and it seems like they are often cut short by the lights turning off. I'm female and I only go with my husband--when he's off of work. More large special events. 5 4 Couple with children at home Tennis courts should be washed for safety and weeds pulled on court areas 5 4 Couple, children no longer at home Connect more indoor facilities and meeting rooms to swim pool facilities for multiple family activities. Develop golf course facilities for multiple use like weddings. 5 4 Couple, children no longer at home I enjoy the number of parks and areas provided throughout the community. I would like to see another center like the Sycamore Center in at least one other area of town. Would like to see more emphasis on the arts which would involve input and participation from all the individual art groups now functioning within Farmington.... NWNMAC, RiverReach, unite the arts groups. 5 4 Couple, children no longer at home I have seen men parked in cars at the park by miller street bridge going in and out of restrooms (put a water park at this park to get some families there-get rid of the men), i have seen sex acts, people so intoxicated they cant walk. pollution of the river is a major major concern. 5 4 Couple, children no longer at home I live outside of Aztec so have a 25 minute drive to Farmington. 5 4 Couple, children no longer at home It would be nice to have more signs. I am often available when things are closed or not available, and classes are closed when I try to sign up. I know it is hard to keep the homeless out of the parks, and it is better than it was, but I am still hesitant if it is getting dark, and I never go when it is dark unless it is with a big group. 5 4 Couple, children no longer at home Safety: Better lighting at Ricketts near snack bar, Sandstone Productions 5 4 Couple, children no longer at home We need to make our rivers part of Downtown Farmington. 5 4 Couple, children no longer at home Would like the Nature Center to be open on Mondays. This would make a huge difference in being able to bring children and the developmentally delayed. Seems like low cost heaters could be installed (maybe even solar-powered) to keep the pipes from freezing. Also, I think Berg Park could be patrolled better....so many drunks passed out, fighting, pooping, or screaming obscenities at all hours of the day. 5 4 Single with children at home I think that overall I am completely satisfied. 5 4 Single, children no longer at home I have been worried about safety issues regarding use of bathroom facilities at local parks especially Berg park. 5 4 Single, children no longer at home PRCA needs to initiate efforts to coordinate programs and publicity with the library, bookstores, Civic Center, SJC, public school reps and any businesses which have the ability or desire to bring programs to the city or those which might sponsor those programs. This would enlarge the pool of ideas to enrich the city. 5 4 Single, no children Better signage to the Nature Center is needed - sign near the Animal Shelter was taken down and never replaced. There should be a sign at the Rocky Reach Landing showing the route to the Nature Center and Xeriscape Garden; also one near the motel area at Riverwalk. 5 4 Single, no children When visiting parks in town, I have found the restroom facilities to be well below acceptable in both number and cleanliness. 5 3 Couple with children at home although I think birds are beautiful, I am not really into watching them. I would get more out of an educational walk that told me what type of trees and plants I was looking at. the trees and shrubs around here are nothing like back east and I would like to know what they are. the particulars of the species. 5 3 Couple with children at home Farmington needs to work with the BLM to develop signage for the Glade Run. A well developed OHV recreation area will bring people to Farmington. 5 3 Couple with children at home I dont see many adults at crouch mesa i think it is because there is so many kids they dont feel comfortable and i think the hours should be all day so that we as adults can go and do the things we want to do without the bother of all the children RRC Associates IMPORTANCE OF AVAILABILITY: 1=Not At All Important, 5=Very Important MEETING HOUSEHOLD NEEDS: 1=Not At All, 5=Completely Page 12 of 38 ---PAGE BREAK--- FARMINGTON PRCA SURVEY 2014 Open Link Web Version Importance of PRCA Amenities How Much Household Needs Are Met Household Satisfaction with PRCA Amenities and Services 5 3 Couple with children at home I live in the Crouch Mesa area. There is nothing to do in the area for adults. We need to have a place for classes and recreation. 5 3 Couple with children at home Promotion of activities in the Daily Times is poor promotion. Many people don't get the paper because it's not worth the money. 5 3 Couple with children at home SAfety is a big issue. When I talk safety I maninly use Berg Park and there are so many vagrants that are living in the bushes... it is scary. 5 3 Couple with children at home We need permanent restroom facilities at Farmington Lake and more leagues for 45 plus athletes (hard to keep up with those 20/30 year olds).. 5 3 Couple with children at home What happened to the guy that was running the tennis complex? The lady that is running it now is not very qualified and honestly does a poor job of promoting tennis and running the complex. 5 3 Couple, children no longer at home The homeless and drunks are becoming less visible, which is nice, but their presence is still a safety issue for me. Their boldness for panhandling is increasing. There are not enough restrooms - multi-stall in the parks. The singles are nice for privacy, but sometimes it is a really long wait to use one. Chamber of Commerce is a contact point for most and feel it is unavailable. 5 3 Couple, children no longer at home We have such a diverse group of artist and cultures here that we are not taking advantage of this to help with tourism and ultimately make Farmington a place for youth to stay and adults to retire to and it is proven that the more art an area has the more it becomes a tourist destination increasing the revenue for our community. 5 3 Single with children at home Your tennis complex needs more events and a better manager. As if it hasn't been cleaned in months. Also, during the start of spring/summer, when the bugs are everywhere, if it is cleaned, the workers do not sweep the restrooms EVER because it is always like walking directly into a spiders web. Nothing but webs all around the toilets, sinks, corners of doors, around the trash and in ever corner of the restroom itself. Most spiders bite and it doesn't take much to take a broom to the place each time they get the trash and refill the toilet paper each time they do that daily. But It doesn't seem anyone ever does. 5 2 Couple with children at home need to consult with other citys with good parks programs 5 2 Couple with children at home The website is very hard to navigate and find activities on it or links to the activities. 5 2 Couple, children no longer at home Connectivity, accessibility, proximity and signage are lacking. 5 2 Couple, children no longer at home I can't get my choices below to drag, so: 1) Trails and Connectivity 2) Improve Access to Rivers and/or Lakefronts 3) Improve Quality of Life and Attract Tourism 5 2 Couple, children no longer at home would like to see more activities in this area. Cultural based 5 2 Couple, no children Our museum is great why not have new exhibits regularly instead of the same boring ones that have been there forever. The city needs to bring in more traveling exhibits and promote more community involvement locally. We all know about the oilfield industry and the trading post beginnings lets move on from there to what Farmington can and will become. The Civic Center is great, very large, but unless you visit the downtown areas of Farmington, you would miss it. We have a generation of newcomers to promote our city and it's amenities to and the city is lacking in that aspect. We lost Andrea Kristinas--is there a way to bring them back? They livened up the downtown area. Can we have a community art center downtown. There is a lack of support it seems for intellectual pursuits outside of the school system here. Art allows and promotes the development of the mind and the body, support it and promote it. It is very hard to put a price tag on a pleasant walk down by the river or the laughter of kids (big and small) playing. Those are all positive benefits to the community. The quality and maintenance of the parks and facilities is awesome. Please don't cut the budget there. I think you should reach out to the elementary schools and get the children out and into the parks more. 4 4 Couple, children no longer at home Put information in the electric utility bill. Get people to the website. Do more Public Service Announcements. Market. 4 3 Couple with children at home I find the website and registration process very cumbersome and frustrating 4 2 Couple with children at home We have enjoyed the many parks with our children available throughout the Farmington area. The riverwalk is one of our favorite areas to explore in the warmer months. We have also had the pleasure of taking our children to swimming lessons at the aquatic center. The only negative comment I have is in regards to Brookside Park & it's reputation for being unsafe. 2 2 Single, no children Need more senior activities after 5:00pm, and on the weekends. They are gross and way overcrowded. An additional disc golf course elsewhere in the city would be beneficial or at least improvements, especially the bathroom, at the current one. 5 4 Couple with children at home A dog park on the eadt side of town. 5 4 Couple with children at home A museum to highlight City's energy companies? We zip thru that and spend more time in the gift shop--I hope the gift shop was expanded! A yearly student art exhibit would be great--for all grades. An exhibit of the winning entries from area events would be great: show the blue ribbons from the county fairs; the jury prize, etc. 5 4 Couple with children at home Cooper court and Lions courts have no bathrooms. They also need better surfaces. It would also be beneficial to have a practice wall at one of the Farmington courts. The one at Cooper doesn't count because the surface is slanted and rough, so it doesn't work as a practice area. The tennis Complex is beautiful. It is well maintained and a great asset to Farmington. However, its location is tough. It is far out of the way and it is so high up that tennis is very difficult when it is windy in the spring and throughout monsoon season. 5 4 Couple with children at home FYI....We need to have an actual cultural museum since we are surround by such Native American History for example: Code Talkers, Rugs, Pottery, Paintings, etc. 5 4 Couple with children at home It would be great if we could renovate the civic center for better performing arts. The seats are much too close, stage too small, etc. I suppose it is cost prohibitive to develop something like the Henderson bldg. 5 4 Couple with children at home Museum- more traveling shows. We drive to Durango for swimming because it is so much better. There is more for the kids to play with and a nicer atmosphere. We definitely need more water parks, etc. because the few we have are becoming overcrowded! The childrens museum also needs improving. It is fun to attend about once a year, because it is always the same! 5 4 Couple with children at home The jeep trails and UTV trails continue to be threatened by the BLM to be taken away and I have grown up on these trails and try and show my kids the same, and I continue to see trails being closed. NOT GOOD 5 4 Couple with children at home The paved pathways are atrocious, much improvement needed there. Also, again, we have been here two years and are still not aware of where the dog park is, fountain and splash pads for the kids, or to good riverfront access. More education & marketing could be put into communicating all these great facilities and fun community facilities by PRCA. 5 4 Couple, children no longer at home consider deranges water park-go there-see what is fantastic 5 4 Couple, children no longer at home I love the library but they deserve more funding. They have been forced to not keep up the collection due to funding cuts. It is a jewel for our community. I wish there was more lighting though for when it gets to be dusk and we aren't quite ready to go home. I feel relatively safe at the park but I wouldn't want to be alone up there as the neighborhood around it feels a little iffy and there are some suspicious people without dogs or kids that have been hanging around the parking lot. Improve locker room 5 4 Couple, no children There are only a couple of indoor pools. The room temperature is cold and the water is cold. Even if told the water is at 80 degrees; because the general room temperature is cold, the experience of an 'indoor' pool does not exist. The locker room and changing area at Lions is very crowded. Lions is a nice pool for classes such as aquacise because it is a little more secluded than going to the Aquatic Center where you feel like you are in the middle of the public. I believe from comments I have heard; Lions would be a busy pool if some of the room/water temperature and crowded changing room area could be worked out. 5 4 Single with children at home funding 5 4 Single, children no longer at home Brookside Pools changing room area for women is out of date, unsanitary and needs to be updated. The Aquatic center is disgusting. The water seems filthy and slimy, the bathrooms are not well cared for or policed and therefor are not pleasant to be in. 5 3 Couple with children at home The Glade Run Recreation area is an under utilized and under managed resource. Open spaces are being closed around the nation and people are looking for areas to operate their OHV. If we had a well developed systems of trails like Moab people would visit the area. I think there should be limited and monitored OHV use around Angle Peak. A well developed trail system would really open the area up to moto- tourism. 5 3 Couple with children at home You are doing well with what we have experienced, but we would love to have more. We do the art walks downtown, but would love to see more art and creative themed things downtown. I have very small children, but they have responded well to the art classes we get downtown, and the pottery and music too. Indoor is so much easier for us. It would be beneficial to have more scientific displays and biology and plant information. Even make it a little like the Explora museum in Albuquerque. Also I would like see a sports complex built. Specifically, an indoor tennis center or a complex that could serve several sports. Tennis is a great sport for all ages from 4years old to 80! It is a wonderful life-time sport. With the obesity epidemic that our country is facing, tennis is a great solution. It keeps people active and exercising at their own ability level. An indoor tennis center would allow people to play who can't handle the wind and cold or heat. It would also be a great tourist attraction because Farmington would be able to bring in tournaments. 5 4 Couple with children at home I would ask to build a Ice Skating Facility to draw in revenue from visitors and people using the facility. Create a connection from Downtown to the Animas River. Build a Convention Center Downtown to bring conventions and events that will expand our economy. 5 4 Couple, no children I wouild like to see a combined golf course fee program for Civitan and PHGC. Maybe an annual membership at Civitan would include x number of rounds at PHGC or a discount there. 5 4 Couple, no children We would love to see the river park at Westland Park connect to the River Walk. 5 4 Single, children no longer at home I would like to see the city partner with the elementary school to offer at least 2 days per school year for each class to come swimming as part of the school's PE program. 5 4 Single, no children For Crouch Mesa Community Center there needs to be a gym, playground, soccer field, basketball court, grass, vending machines, water fountains, extended hours, and bigger building. 5 4 Single, no children Keep expanding the river trail system. Find opportunities to connect areas of the city (neighborhoods, businesses) to the river trails. 5 3 Couple with children at home As previously mentioned, the membership fees and other fees are much too high for many parents - especially with multiple children. Perhaps most of these fees can be subsidized or a surcharge placed on all utility bills to help reduce pricing for the children to participate. 5 3 Couple with children at home I truly believe that all of the people except for the tennis complex lady are highly qualified and motivated individuals that I am happy to know and enjoy working with them. Natalie at SPCC is exceptional. 5 3 Couple with children at home more community events downtown would be nice. 5 3 Couple with children at home We are closer to downtown and would love to see it full and busy. We try to support the local businesses, but they are not surviving. There seems to be a lot of space downtown that is unused. 5 3 Single with children at home Get the tennis and racquetball program going. They aren't compatible for our families needs. So I wouldn't know what would be an appropriate tax increase for these activities. If, within ten years, I was still not using them like I am now, then I should haven't to pay for that tax increase because they don't apply to my family and probably a lot of other people and their family. However, if the city started incorporating everyone into it and made things available for everyone, then I would be willing to pay any amount of tax increase so I could take my son to a swimming pool where he can enjoy just playing in some shallow water without being told he's too big to be in that part of the pool, when he doesn't understand or it isn't safe for him to be in any other part of the pool. Or being able to take him into the library and not have people tell me I need to keep him quiet or leave because he has outbursts, meltdowns or something of the sort just because he can't help the way he is. Until this city starts recognizing all of its citizens, my tax dollars shouldn't have to fund any of it. 5 2 Couple, no children I Love that your taking a survey of what the community thinks. Healthy active lifestyles make healthy communities. thank you, I hope to see some improvements over the next couple of years. 5 2 Couple, no children Promote more Intellectual interests, get schools involved through field trips, after school programs. sports are adequately funded already. I don't want brute strength -I want more balanced children and adults. Support programs that do this. Creativity should be promoted more than it is in Farmington. Green grass is nice, wonderful indeed but a paintbrush and carving tools use almost no water and the human mind is nourished. If tennis and golf are that important let those in the extremely limited population that use these facilities pay for them from their pockets. Feed the poor, educate the children, don't use my money for rich peoples sports. The Civic Center brings in tired and dated acts for lots of money. The young people in this town are the ones wanting to go out and spend money, older people will still do it out of habit. I see the same people at every show or event and they are all 20 years older than me (I'm 28). Give people something better to do than spend their money at Zebras or Rookies and then get into fights at Top Deck (and quite frankly I enjoy those establishments while others obviously abuse them). And these are the people with young kids who want things to do with these young kids. When there is a kids event going on like the Halloween Carnival at the College or a (rare) children’s show at the Civic Center, you better believe that all my Facebook friends are ALL there posting pics, etc. WHY ARE WE NOT PROVIDING MORE OF THESE EVENTS IF THEY ARE SO WELL ATTENDED? The ampitheatre is a great space (and I mean an AWESOME space), but no one wants to see Fiddler on a Hot Tin Roof or Oklahoma at the amphitheater. I hope Sandstone learned from their Grease production people want to see those kind of show popular and relevant to a young crowd, not to my grandmother. The theatres in town do not need an upgrade but they do need to THINK about what audiences they WANT and NEED to attract and then find the shows that will do it. As far as the natural areas, they are hard to locate unless you know who to ask. Very well maintained and cared for BUT HOW DO I GET THERE? WHAT CAN I DO THERE? I HAVE LIVED HERE FOR 20 YEARS AND I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HECK THE 'GLADE' IS. And there has got to be a way to contain the smell of the bathrooms at the softball complex on Pinon Hills and La Plata Highway. When I'm paying to play softball in a league, I don't want to smell my own shit when I get there. And don’t get me started on the registration process for that league. It has taken at minimum an hour for me to register the past two years when all I have to do is write down my name and address, sign the waiver and hand my cash over. BUT IT STILL TAKES AN HOUR. That brings me to the Downtown area and it’s many “projects.†Why is Farmington and it’s hoity toity elite NOT looking at the perfect example a thriving downtown area in Durango People know WHERE downtown is quit wasting money of signs!
